Daily Mail Headline Writers Try To Drag Celtic Into Ibrox’s Campaign From Hell.

Yesterday, The Daily Mail carried a ridiculous anti-Celtic headline.

“ONE point between them and 25 GOALS conceded… (Ibrox) and Celtic have been a disaster on their return to the Champions League. For all the hope that both could reach the last-16, the (Glasgow) rivals have been HUMILIATED at Europe’s top table.”

That headline isn’t factually incorrect.

But it comes over an article by Stephen McGowan which is solely focussed on the game at Ibrox on Wednesday.

That headline was what they put over his match report, in a blatant attempt to drag us into that disgrace and their hellish Champions League campaign performance.

Now, we haven’t exactly been brilliant. Everyone knows that.

I don’t think I’ve ever been so disappointed with a European campaign in my life.

But there was no shame and there was no disgrace in it.

No wonder Ange was raging today. The Daily Mail’s headline is an exceptional example but certainly not the only one.

We simply failed to do the basic stuff, failed to convert our chances, but we were not out of the game against Madrid until late and it was late goals which did for us in the two games against the Germans.

That stands in stark contrast to the performances of the Ibrox team who are on the brink of the worst Group Stage campaign of all time.

Yeah, both sides are probably going to finish last in their Groups.

That’s a savage indictment on the one hand and a simple acknowledgement of football reality on the other.

But it’s no coincidence that Celtic fans spent the summer months talking about finding out how far we’d come whilst over there they were convinced that they had arrived with the table set.

Our fans feel deflated and the team itself is cursing its luck.

Their fans are infuriated because they know that they’ve watched an utter humiliation. They, at least, are not kidding themselves about this, even if the desperate hacks are.
