Ibrox Player Says Today Was A “Proper Performance.” He Should Have Watched Celtic’s.

Today Ibrox’s team scraped through a 2-1 win at Fir Park.

It was an awful football match to watch, genuinely an eye-ball bleeder.

I have watched better juniors games than that today. Ibrox’s kick and rush football is chronic. Their marquee players are of a ridiculously poor standard. Did they really pay big money for Matondo? It seems hard to believe.

In the aftermath, John Lundstram, who scored their second, made an amazing claim to the media; that it was “proper performance.” Eah? Does he really believe that? Can he possibly believe it?

Did his manager tell him to say that?

Does the whole Ibrox dressing room feel the same way?

It was dreadful. If he thinks that ticked the boxes he’s mad.

Yesterday we put on a football show, and gave them a lesson in what a “proper performance” looks like. Tillman is getting praise for a goal, where the Motherwell defence backed off and let him run.

But aside from that there was no real quality in that performance, and certain players – like Kent, who deserves an article on his own – were particularly woeful.

They played today like a team that is essentially out of ideas. Colak, who we were being told was one of the best strikers in Europe – yes, the Daily Record does write some guff – was hooked having made no contribution whatsoever, not a shot on or even off target.

Van Bronckhorst looked, for much of the game, like a rabbit caught in the headlights. Like for like swaps only brought off ineffective players to replace them with other ineffective players.

The mood around that club must be awful because those inside it have to know that this is slipping away, that they are struggling on every front.

And yet this club is just two points behind us. Which is sobering.

They have built a unit which is just – just – better than the level of opposition they play most weeks. But I don’t think it can last. They still don’t look anywhere near as good as we do and even if other clubs don’t take points off them we’re certainly not going to show any mercy.

Other clubs will definitely take points off them too, home and away.

Their players actually think they were excellent today and that says it all. That is a team going nowhere.
