Those Who Think Celtic “Scraped A Win” On Saturday Were Watching A Different Game.

After I posted my first article today, I thought that it was time I tackled some of the media’s ridiculous narrative in the aftermath of the game at the weekend. There are a number of aspects to their coverage which simply don’t stand up to scrutiny.

First is the idea that Motherwell were unlucky. Second is the idea that we, conversely, were fortunate to win.

There is no truth to either argument.

The stats should be awful reading if you’re a Motherwell fan.

We gifted a goal to them and other than our spectacular mess with the equaliser they registered a meagre two shots on target.

Their possession was 30%.

Their version of football was to kick everything in a Celtic shirt, get men behind the ball and waste as much time as possible.

I am tired of teams like this playing what’s not even spoiler football but anti-football and getting praise from a media which has clearly forgotten what the real stuff is supposed to look like.

Our own stats offer a brutal contrast with theirs.

70% possession. 17 shots, six of which were on target. We hit the crossbar twice.

We scored two and should have had more.

I was amazed at the stats on fouls; the ref awarded ten against us to their nine, which is ludicrous if you watched the game, but sums up the abysmal performance of an official who shouldn’t be near Celtic Park far less officiating there.

The numbers don’t lie and neither does the evidence of our own eyes, and I was there and saw that only one side was trying to win the match and that was us.

The media might not like it, and the Motherwell manager may make a desperate effort to spin against it, but it’s true and everyone who seeks to be taken seriously as a neutral knows it.

Sevco fans fancy their chances against Liverpool tomorrow night and are using Alexander-Anold as the weakness in their team to exploit.
BOOM! Here comes another skelping heading to the new klub from ibrox,I reckon at least 5 maybe even 6 just before half-time.

  • Frankie says:

The faster we get var in the better, the game on Saturday I wonder what it would have said about the handball by the Motherwell player and it would be interesting to see what Beaton would say.

  • John Copeland says:

What was the difference between Mc Gregor’s red card on Saturday and Sands ‘ last man foul for the Rangers a few weeks ago not getting red ? Anyone ?????

    • Clachnacuddin and the Hoops says:

Not much John apart from Cal Mac wears Hoops and gets red – Sands plays for Sevco and doesn’t –

Result = Beaton and Robertson are blatant CHEATS !

  • Scud Missile says:

There is no difference in those 2 incidents it was just that ref TOTALLY BOYTLE IT on the sevco game,he would never got out that stadium had he send Sands off and sevco dropped more points again.
A big bag of shite won that decision.

  • Scud Missile says:

    BOTTLED IT that should read.

  • Tony B says:

I absolutely agree with the comments re Cheatin’ Beaton.

This corrupt official should be nowhere near a Celtic game, nor indeed a sevco one, since it’s clear where his allegiances lie.

  • James Doherty says:

You are totally correct. The time wasting from these teams starts within the first 5 minutes and it is embarrassing. It’s not football and it’s not entertainment but as you say it’s encouraged and praised by our media and opposition managers. It’s just pathetic. Is it any wonder that the Scottish game is viewed as being so poor.

  • Mr Vincent McSherry says:

Don Robertson sending off a sevco player at ibrox? Come on! what a bad career move!!

  • kingmurdy says:

if we had converted the chances we had,,,and have had, in many games this season all this talk of “scraping it” would be academic….for all our talk of “top finishers” we have…they miss a helluva lot of chances…
    it’s a concern..
however, another 3 points on saturday…the st.mirren game and saturday…we seem to be a wee bit off the boil…think we are missing our central partnership…

  • Seppington says:

“Anti-football” = “Wattienaccio”, you know those media hunbags are going to love it!

As said above, it’s no wonder our league gets such derision from others. Turgid cling-on-for-a-draw-and-hope-Celtic-fall-asleep-on-the-counter-attacks pish. And then they have the cheek to lock our fans out of their grounds when only a handful of their own die-hards are willing to pay to see them!?!?

    Fuds.

  • Paul Sweeney says:

Totally agree with all your thoughts on Sats. game, i use this word as the word match would to me seem as to giving Motherwell a due respect they in no way earned or warranted,I’m just glad that it’s you as opposed to myself that has to read the rags and their bias drivel.Keep up the good work.Keep the faith and hail hail

  • Frank Connelly says:

on a separate point how many fans did they bring to the game on Saturday. A joke!
No wonder given the crap they offered up. Imagine watching that every week. and us with fans desperate to see our side denied the opportunity and that area of the stadium practically empty.

  • Robert Cairney says:

The two stand in defenders will be torn ragged on Wednesday, a total bomb scare in the second half…stupidest needless sending off of one of our best players…If they passed forwards instead of sideways or backwards in blind panic the sending off wouldn’t have happened…Far too slack in front of goal, we need to finish better..
