Celtic’s Manager Does Not Need Hugh Keevins For Advice On Players.

Once again I am grateful to my mate Paddy Sinat, of Vital Celtic, for going once again where I steadfastly refuse to go, dipping into Radio Clyde to bring us the pearls of wisdom from that show and those on it. Our favourite, of course, being Hugh Keevins.

Tonight he was pontificating on the squad, and giving his approval – ha! What a cheek he has! – to the manager’s plans to sign a central defender. And why? Because he personally is not convinced by either Starfelt or Jenz and thinks Ange’s body language suggests that the manager isn’t convinced that Stephen Welsh has anything to offer.

Aside from Starfelt being a convenient whipping boy and Jenz having more than Keevins thinks because he so often watches Celtic through a blue tint, his ability to tell what our manager is thinking always amazes me. It would amaze me more if he actually did know what the Celtic manager is thinking from time to time.

Alas, that skill alludes him along with many other talents he boasts of.

To be honest, it’s Keevins as a talent spotter which continues to astonish me. His ignorance in this area is not simply well known, it is legendry. He was, after all, the author of one of the most famous quotes in the history of Scottish football, directed at another manager he scorned and a signing which he didn’t rate, about whom he knew nothing.

“I don’t know what I find more laughable – the fact that Celtic cannot find £500,000 from their biscuit tin to sign a proven talent like John Spencer, or the fact that they then spent £300,000 on one of Dr Jo’s old pals, the unknown Lubomir Moravcik,” he famously wrote at the time, and I don’t which part of that is statement is worse, even now.

But I do know this; the guy who wrote that, amidst swirling ignorance, is not someone from whom Ange Postecoglou needs to get advice on signings. I am grateful as ever to Paddy for going off and listening to this stuff. I couldn’t bring myself to.

Hugh Keevins ! Without doubt the finest Daily Record Hotline telephonist in existence ! Those dulcet ,talking through his nose tones ,were perfect Record tabloid standard ! Totally unsurpassed to this day …….Reminds me of the song lyrics …It had to be Hugh , Wonderful Hugh ….!

James you are correct keevins is a old clown and never has anything decent to say especially about celtic and he has been like that since king kenny was boss

We know what an auld fud keevens is. The question about central defenders tho, the 2 ah personally trust most are CCV and Lenz. Tbh ahm no convinced wi Starfelt and don’t think Welsh is up tae it. If we’re goin to strengthen again in January and ah hope we are, imo central defence and another striker are two areas we should definitely be lookin at.

Daft auld Spew Heavins shits his adult nappy whilst being spoon fed slops by his carer, and still finds time to comment on football.

    NURSE!

    No shit Sherlock

    Keevins? Again? Really?

In any case I agree with him. If our goal is to make a dent in the CL, CCV needs a better partner than both Jenz and Starfelt. Both are fine for the SPFL. Neither are good enough for the CL.

I totally agree, we need someone a lot more accomplished that those two if we are to progress.

What he told andy gray was the greatest statement i have ever heard. We will never ever let them forget that true fact.

“Eludes” you mean. You would “Allude” to him being twat…or just say it outright!

  • James White says:

I wouldn’t get too hot under the collar over Hugh Keevins or any of the other journalist/pundits who frequent the SSB Studio. The main talent is the host, Gordon Duncan. For such a young guy, Duncan is a genuine class act.

Priority for Celtic should be a goalscorer, no question. Giakoumakis has had plenty of opportunities but he is not the answer. The immature way he conducts himself on the field is embarrassing. There is better out there and January would be an ideal time to bring that better in.

Hugh Keevins for manager. There could be a vacancy coming up in Govan.

I remember well the mocking Celtic received when they signed Lubo. I remember too his first game at Celtic park against the club that died. I might be wrong , but I think Lubo did quite well in that game. The Scottish press were a bit subdued afterwards. Thanks for reminding me, James. Happy Days.
