Fearful Ibrox Fan Forum Deletes A Thread About How Celtic Will Soon Have 55.

As they spit fury and bile tonight, the Ibrox fan forums are also debating furiously what the future might hold. That is not a discussion that too many of them are enjoying, for obvious reasons, and for one of their posters a dreadful possibility looms largest.

That we might, very soon, “overtake them” as the most successful club in the country.

This, of course, presupposes that you believe in the Survival Lie, which of course none of us do. But still, they do believe it and they now live in fear of it being rendered utterly redundant. Because what cold comfort does even the trophy haul of Rangers and Sevco combined bring to them if we’ve already eclipsed it and are moving into the distance?

I’ve always argued that in the absence of justice the best thing we could do is focus on making the whole thing immaterial, and based on what happened over on Folow Follow tonight they recognise that the risk is now very real and even imminent.

One of their supporters stuck up a thread entitled “We Are In Real Dangers Of Being Overtaken”, and the subject matter was how close we are to their fabled 55 titles. He knows the numbers and knows what they mean. We are on 52. Win this title and we’re right on the brink. He freely admits that he “feared this more than the ten.”

The thread was up for perhaps half an hour. It received hundreds of views and a lot of replies.

It’s clearly something their fans are thinking about and which weighs on their minds.

But it was a little too close to the knuckle, a little too real and raw, for their moderators to allow. There are just some things they refuse point blank to discuss and this is one of them.

Not to be deterred, the guy who put it up stuck up another one, and he entitled it “Are We Not Allowed To Talk About Them Overtaking Us?” It was gone within minutes, although fans were already responding on it.

That shows you how deep the fear of this subject goes.

Their forum members aren’t even permitted to openly discuss it, as if not doing so will somehow make the possibility of it go away, and it won’t because there is something inevitable about us getting past them, something that seems more fate than mere destiny.

It is coming, and they know it is.
