McManus Writes For An Ibrox Blog And Knows Nothing Of What Goes On At Celtic.

Yesterday, Tam McManus was trending across Celtic social media again, and I am never less than fascinated when he does. He has talked some of the worst nonsense about our club of anyone these last few years and yesterday was no exception.

The subject he chose to pontificate on was the contract situation between Celtic and Giorgios Giakoumakis, about which McManus knows only what he’s read in the papers, and much of that is dead on wrong. McManus has no direct information whatsoever, only his stupid opinions based on the stupid opinions of other people.

He claims that the club and Giakoumakis reached a “gentleman’s agreement” over wages. Where’s he getting that from? Not inside Celtic, that’s for sure, where he knows a handful of people and is trusted by none of them.

No, he got that from some hack or other who has an equally wrong-headed understanding of how the game works. Let’s put it this way, if Giakoumakis agent relied on a “verbal agreement” then it’s no wonder the big guy has jettisoned him for someone else. Because in the modern game virtually nobody signs a deal without everything being in writing.

Giakoumakis has changed agents, that’s the only known fact.

Who knows? Maybe a new agent will get the deal from Celtic that would satisfy all parties.

We weren’t offering this guy a new contract so we could punt him; we want to keep him here and according to Anthony Joseph, who actually does know a bit about this stuff even if I’m reluctant to call him a true “in the know” (in modern football there really isn’t any such thing) he wants to stay.

McManus’ latest career side-line is writing for an Ibrox fan site. Yeah. I bet half of the Celtic fans who shared his latest theory on what’s going on inside Parkhead weren’t entirely aware of that, but it’s a fact nonetheless. That man’s word should not be believed far less shared widely. He knows nothing and invents the rest, and you can’t trust his motives.

He is no friend of ours, that’s been clear for a long, long time.

The Giakoumakis thing will be concluded in its own good time, and I’ll trust Ange Postecoglou.

In the meantime, I’ll support the big lad for as long as he’s in the Hoops.

He hasn’t made any waves here; if he had then we’d never see him pull on the jersey again.
