This has been a lucrative World Cup break for Celtic, and no mistake. Our club has already reaped the benefits of the Aussie Tour and made a reputed £4 million plus from it. We’ve spent that on a new right back. Now our players at the big competition have put another cool £1 million plus into the piggy bank for us, by virtue of their success.

Last night, Maeda and Juranovic both helped their sides into the next round, with the Japanese achievement particularly impressive in light of their group. Croatia’s was no small accomplishment either though, dispatching the favoured Belgians to an early plane trip home. That makes it a perfect four out of four for our current crop of stars.

There cannot be too many teams who can boast such a record from this tournament. Every one of our boys has done the club proud. Every one of them played a part in this triumph. There is a lot for us to be smiling about this morning.

The money is nice. Of course it is. Earning it from this competition is better than spending it on a new manager. Their club has pocketed a fairly miserable sum from this World Cup, nothing on the level which Celtic has brought in.

But it’s more than the money. The money is secondary to the fact that this stuff can’t help but raise our profile just a bit. To have our players in the second stages when so many other top footballers have fallen by the wayside … it’s great for the club.

It gets better too, because due to Croatia drawing Australia, one of our players is guaranteed to be in the quarter finals. That’s another huge feather in our cap and if that player happens to be Juranovic, it can only increase the price we get for him if we decide to go down that road.

Celtic is doing just fine in this World Cup break.

That said, I think we’re all looking forward to being back in business in the league again.

Only 4 weeks until we head for the dead zone. I care more about that than any world cup. I dread to think what might happen if we start that game with Ralston instead of JJ. So i hope both the U.S and Croatia get gubbed in their next games

I don’t know Tom Ralston has been not too bad any time he’s been asked to stand in for juranovic, bearing in mind it’s sevco we will be playing not man city or PSG,or the likes.

Think you mean Japan and not Australia …Croatia will play Japan in the second round …Daizen and Josip have already started the banter between them on their instagram accounts.

  • SSMPM says:

Nostradamus. Thanks Tom, JJ will be a miss, I agree but he’s replaceable. Btw I also foresee pain in the midden.
