Reports tonight from Korea suggest that we’re in advanced negotiations over one of our targets, and it’s not the guy who we were linked to last week but, once again, the guy we were linked to at the start, the World Cup star Cho Gue-sung.
This would be the preferred target for most Celtic fans, because he has the better scoring record in the domestic league and grabbed a double during the World Cup game against Ghana, and put himself on the radar of clubs across Europe.
Not that the other player isn’t an impressive footballer, but if most of us had a choice this is the guy it would be.
His profile could not be higher, either on or off the pitch, and today he and his agent have confirmed that they are talking to Celtic about a move in this window.
One of the things that excites him about the move is, he says, the Asian players already at the club.
This was always going to be a big selling point, so it’s good to see that we’re using it as one.
There is a growing sense of Celtic as a major player over there now, and it’s good that players who might otherwise have thought beyond Scotland are focussed on us.
There is a lot going on at the club right now, and although Ange was at great pains to say that nothing is imminent, it is almost certain that we are lining up at least one deal over there, for one of the forwards we’ve been linked with.
Both are outstanding prospects, but this is the guy most of us want and not only because of his football ability.
As I pointed out in a recent piece, this guy’s marketability is also astonishing as he’s recent Vogue cover proved. There is no way that this would not represent fantastic business for this club and now we know that the interest is real.
