Kyogo Furuhashi won the player of the month award today after roaring to the top of the SPFL scoring charts and bagging goals in his last four games including the late equaliser at Ibrox which sees us retain our nine point lead at the top of the table.

To say that he has made a sterling contribution since we came back from the World Cup has been an understatement. He failed to score in just one game, the Aberdeen match where Callum McGregor netted late to give us the 1-0 win.

As I wrote yesterday, Kyogo is on his way to 30 goals in the league.

I don’t know if he’ll get it but I am a betting man and I wouldn’t bet against it. There are 18 games to go and he has played 18 up until now. He has 15 goals, and in terms of just putting the ball in the net he’s in the best form of his time with us.

Yes, he’s not as exciting to watch as he was in the early spell, where you could see his full range of skills … but teams now routinely double mark him and try to limit what he can do, and still he has enough about him to find a way through.

If the player of the month award was no surprise, then the manager of the month award going to The Mooch certainly wasn’t although the stats are all in our favour. We increased our goal difference lead. We retained our nine point advantage. We went to Aberdeen, Easter Road and Ibrox and returned with nearly maximum points.

But the league had to give it to the king of comedy. Of course they did, although it’s pretty clear that Ange’s achievement was much greater. The Mooch had to rely on those two goals deep into injury time to avoid defeat at Aberdeen … but I guess some think Callum scoring late there and us scoring late at Ibrox balance that out.

It’s a ridiculous decision, to be frank, a wee piece of Ibrox feel-good, the sort we get all the time.

Ange won’t care either way because he’s the manager of the year certainty and he must be running out of room in his house for these prizes, but this was as predictable as February rain in Glasgow.

Every new Ibrox boss must have his honeymoon.

Well, we’ll see how long it lasts as the Green Machine continues rolling forward.
