Did Fashion Sakala Celebrate Cheating Celtic? No-One In The Media Seems To Care.

The Fashion Sakala penalty at the weekend is, at the very least, debatable.

But what isn’t in debate any longer is that he made a meal of the challenge and went down as if he’d been shot. The picture that’s doing the rounds on Sevco social media shows him openly laughing as he lies there in “agony.”

So what exactly was that all about?

No-one seems to care. No-one in the media anyway.

Because they all think this is hilarious.

This has gone a long way to turning a bit-part player at Ibrox into a cult hero with their fans as well. They are easily amused that lot. The last cult hero was Lundstram because he behaved a bit staunch in a game against us last season.

Most of them acknowledge that he’s pretty useless otherwise.

The Sakala incident has gotten very little media attention though, mostly because the focus has been on the diabolical Goldson one. But it’s clear that he’s hamming it up a bit, and as such he can really only be doing so for two reasons; either because it’s a dive or because he wants to exaggerate the contact and get the Celtic player sent off.

Either way what some in the media are sniggering over is a blatant attempt at cheating, and perhaps a successful one since the penalty was given. I am still in two minds about it. Certainly, he falls over his own feet and not so much because of any challenge.

It’s the sort of penalty they get; that’s the nice way of putting it anyway.

And his reaction is exactly the sort you expect from someone who has spent any length of time inside the environs of that ground. It’s a “win at all costs” mentality which doesn’t mind a bit of play acting, a bit of diving, a bit of rolling around faking it, a bit of cheating.

Sakala is not laughing because he’s in pain.

He’s laughing because he’s either conned the ref or is still trying to con him even after the penalty has been awarded.

Most people in our media would be outraged at that if they watched it at a game in England. But here it’s all part of the circus, all part of the gag, all part of the running joke that is officiating in Scotland.
