Ibrox’s Contract Rebels Are Now In Trouble If They Get Injured And Some Already Are.

Ibrox’s contract rebels are now in the last six months of their deals.

That means that they are gambling every time they go in for a 50/50 ball. It means they are putting their necks, and their careers, on the line without any parachute at all.

This is a bad enough spot for these guys to be in at the best of times.

But these are not the best of times, playing for a club whose manager is quite literally desperate to close the gap on us and whose fans are sick and tired of being second best to Celtic.

The worst thing that can happen to a player with six months left on his deal is getting injured. Some of these guys are already injured and have been for weeks if not months.

Morelos shouldn’t be near the squad for this game, but he’ll start tomorrow for sure.

This reckless disregard for their health and wellbeing has already been noted on this blog, of course.

The club has no concern for them at all, and will do whatever it takes to get them out on the pitch. Pain killing injections. Temporary fixes on what might be long term problems.

Morelos is clearly operating with a hamstring issue … if that goes he’s facing months on the side-lines. Those are months in which he’d have been hoping to secure a contract.

The same applies to Kent and Arfield and Helander and Jack. Kent, at least, has managed to stay fit.

Apparently. What we mean by that, of course, is that if he’s injured they’ve not disclosed it. But they didn’t disclose that Tavernier and Lundstram have been struggling for months either until recently, so you just never know.

Helander has not kicked a ball this season.

They are desperately trying to get him back into the team. Jack’s injury issues are well known. Would anyone be shocked if we found out that he’s been “playing through the pain barrier” for a while now?

Their manager has promised us a “blood and thunder” encounter tomorrow; he is, in effect, promising his own players exactly the same thing. I very much doubt that too many of them are happy about that.

I know these guys and their agents aren’t.
