Yeah, The Scottish Daily Express Hates Celtic. We Get It Already For God’s Sake.

There are newspaper writers who hate our club. This much we know already. But there are also entire newspapers which have a passionate detestation of us, and foremost amongst them is The Scottish Daily Express which appears periodically on the football news aggregator sites under our name, and every time it is does it is for something negative.

I’m not joking. I’m not even exaggerating. Their dislike of Celtic is obvious and undisguised. The latest headline to appear on the aggregators from their deplorable right-wing rag reads thus; “Celtic thug chased ‘gloating’ Rangers supporter, attacked him with a screwdriver and stole his car”. This is from an incident which happened two years ago and was penned by their “court reporter.”

And it’s clear looking at that and from their previous output that the word has gone out over there, and particularly in light of the days and days of bile we got from them over the Queen’s death, that any anti-Celtic story its writers can find will get a prominent spot.

Look it’s not uncommon for a newspaper in this country to have a pro-Ibrox stance, but this is not that. This is a distinctly anti-Celtic slant, and you have to remember that this comes from the top of the house. They now consider it a point of policy to attack us whenever they can, because don’t forget that it was not just Celtic fans who came in for criticism during the week of “national mourning” but the club itself.

They believe that Celtic is a uniquely evil institution, profoundly anti all the things that their editors and their alleged readership believes in. We’re pro-immigrant, our fans are left wing, there’s the Irish Republican connection which is enough to make them detest and despise us … and they blame the club in no small part for “allowing this” to go on.

I detest that rag as much as it detests us.

The Express is a deeply bigoted newspaper, not just right wing but flirting, at times, with ideas from the far-right. I always think that when people like this are attacking you that you’re doing something right. That doesn’t always hold true, of course, because there are times when we deserve stick, but as a rule of thumb I’m quite comfortable with it.

  • Seppington says:

A paper for close-minded middle-class tory Britnat twats. We should start slipping copies of the Socialist Worker inside the covers at the Newsagents just to further raise the blood pressure of the puce-faced permaraging klowns that read it, just to wind the fuds up and maybe cause a few heart attacks at the same time, thinning out the arsehole herd a bit. The rest of humanity would commend us for it….

    • Roonsa says:

You are speaking my language Sepps.

The Express and the Mail are overtly Tory, Royalist and they are against everything we stand for. We don’t care who you are (Rod Fucking Stewart) – if you are a Tory then you are not one of us. Hence the reason they dislike us. It’s not anything to lose any sleep over.

FTK and all his parastitic clingers on. Cunts. Every single last one of them.

  • John S says:

The out-of-date article referred to is clearly an incitement to hatred and should be dealt with by his majesty’s court.

    • Peter cassidy says:

Express the racists rag it’s readers in the main white mad hard right nutters love the royals love being ruled by all the public school boys”and girls”any surprise on it’s comments on Celtic and it’s fans but do we really care what they write it’s all bullshit anyway.

  • Tony B says:

    The fascists hate us?

    I can’t think of a bigger compliment.

  • John Armstrong says:

Nobody cares about the daily express so why fill your blog with something we don’t even read drawing attention to them you must be short of ideas on Celtic the daily express has been like that since I was at school over 60 years forget them nobody cares fake news cooooold

  • John Copeland says:

Don’t forget to mention that the daily Star and Record are part of the same ownership as the Express . Now if those other 2 tabloid rags are pro Celtic ,then I’m a billionaire !

  • Pat Mccann says:

Ban these reporters from Celtic park.

  • Gordon Ashley says:

The real sad thing is they do it because we are a weak support who don’t fight back.. that is the truth ! If this was sevco they would be stacking them from every angle through their fan media.. but all is does is lie down and take it like mugs.. and our club is exactly the same !

    • Scud Missile says:

Any bad publicity aimed at the new klub from ibrox are banned, just look at the dispute with the BBC for a reporter calling them out 7 years the ban lasted.
That’s why the rest all keep their mouths shut and challenge the klub on nothing.

    • Clachnacuddin and the Hoops says:

I fight back Gordon as in I don’t buy them at all and haven’t for two decades and I challenge any Hoops fan I know that does – It makes me feel really good to play any little part in any small way to put them out of business !

We are getting there thankfully given their recent circulation figures !!

  • Scud Missile says:

Another paper circulating the drains system.

  • Henriksgoldenboot says:

Why don’t these rags lead with more inclusive stories and investigations that concern everyone, such as the HUGE and unexplained number of excess deaths that we are experiencing in Scotland and the UK and Ireland as a whole.

A topic we need answers to. Anybody any ideas?

  • Tim Buffy says:

Celtic will be around long after this rag has gone. Circular figures dropping faster than a you know whose what’s.

  • Peterbrady says:

What neededtobe let known we will not tolerate this we know the names
Of all the so called journalist editors and they will be profiled FACT. No more back of the bus

  • Craig M says:

You nailed it with the Irish Republican connection. The pro IRA songs that some of our fans sing is the main reason we are hated, no question. Remove these songs and the hatred dissipates

    • Kevan McKeown says:

If ye think the pro ira songs are the main reason mate and the hate ends there yer sleepin. Agree totally the songs should be removed from the grounds, tho the problem goes a lot deeper than that. This part of the country is rotten wi bigotry and rife with hate and intolerance for anythin catholic, Scottish or Irish republican, or Celtic FC and its support.

  • James McAllister says:

Nearly every daily newspaper in Scotland are anti Irish/Celtic I’m from the north of Ireland and it’s not like that here…maybe a wee bit sometimes.

  • Effarr says:

A typical example of their reporting was at the murder trial of the Polish immigrant callously murdered by one from a group wearing THEIR colours. It was described as an Old Firm killing. I though James would have made comment about that at the time.

As for the IRA songs: if the Celtic fans sang Amazing Grace at the games they would soon make that a sectarian issue too. Do you think they enjoy Glenn Daly singing at the games?

If they are so angered by these songs why don’t they condemn the Famine Song and the
    Billy Boys tunes?

They, allegedly, support the Ukrainian struggle and condemn the Irish for the having the
same aim, to repel the uninvited murdering invaders.

  • Michael Gordon says:

I am in my 70’s and the express has always been a right wing, anti non establishment rag. It will never change and, as far as I’m concerned, deserves the same disdain that people in Liverpool have for that other piece of trash “newspaper” the sun

  • John Hughes says:

Try asking them to delve in to the background of the recent MURDER trial conviction, which the BBC stated involved a STRANGER being killed by 3 Sevco fans….(one female)…said stranger happened to be a Polish Celtic supporter…chased and stabbed to death … AFTER Sevco had WON the derby game …. disgracefully hushed up in my opinion ?

  • Gary Macpherson says:

Their hatred is not limited to Celtic, and as you touched on, it’s also right-wing based against many of the ideals of the Club, founders and supporters.
But look more closely and their views are anti-Catholic, making the Club an easy target for much of the bigoted slant of articles against Celtic.
