Ange Refuses Media’s Loaded Question About Whether Celtic Has Won This Title Yet.

Everyone in the Scottish football press corps recognises that Ange Postecoglou is a smart man.

Why is it then that the media insist on treating our manager as if he is a fool?

Today at full time a BBC interviewer made an effort to get him to state that the league had been won this afternoon.

Of course, Ange is never going to say any such thing.

It was done in a roundabout way, but this actually made it worse.

The boss was not in the least bit impressed by it, spotting immediately what he was up to. “You’ve gone a really roundabout way of trying to get me to say, but no I’m not interested in that or thinking about that. For us what’s worked really well and been really important is that we don’t look too far ahead and it’s not just about a week at a time, it’s a day at a time.”

That’s “what’s worked really well.”

The whole philosophy of not looking too far ahead. Not resting on our laurels because we have a significant lead. The media would love to distract us with their nonsense, but Ange keeps everyone focussed.

The BBC know all this, so what they were doing trying to get him to say something out of character was not just ridiculous but a colossal waste of their time. As if Ange was suddenly going to declare the race over?

No, but he might have said something that allowed them to twist his words and he realised that was a real possibility as well.

Frankly, it’s not something they’d be shy about and not something they’ve baulked from doing to him in the past.

He has dealt with them long enough to know it.
