Celtic Fans Mock Ibrox As They Talk Up Hagi Because They Think They Can Flog Him.

The internet is full of two things today; reports from Ibrox about Hagi is the Great White Hope and Celtic fans sniggering over those same pieces. The motivation behind them is perfectly obvious; in the absence of anyone else to flog they are going to hype this guy to the heavens and hope that some big money comes in for him.

They are whistling in the wind. There is next to no chance of them getting an offer that meets their ludicrous valuations, nor indeed of getting one that even realises the transfer fee that they paid for him. He has been injured for nearly a year. You don’t come back from that easily, if some players come back from it at all.

On top of that, there has barely been a more over-rated footballer. One of the reports on him talks about how he plays under the pressure of his famous name. Is that what It is? I thought he was just really mediocre. But I guess it explains, in some ways, the gap between the hype and the reality, and that’s one Hell of a big gap if you’ve ever watched him.

On top of that, there’s the mouthy father, the elder statesman, who seems to spend a lot of his time telling the world how brilliant his son is instead of letting the world figure that out – or not – for itself. It sounds an awful lot like overcompensating for me. If he was really as good as Daddy says, then maybe Daddy wouldn’t need to keep convincing people.

The media will never raise that obvious point; that’s why you find similar arguments relegated to places over and over again in the comments online, either on Twitter or on the articles themselves. Celtic fans know this trick. They know the game. They’ve seen Ibrox attempt this before, with Morelos and Kent most notably.

Well, they can’t do that this time, so what else is there? Kamara, I guess, except that he’s been in and out of the team for months so that people at other clubs have actually had an opportunity to watch him play. That’s bad news from the point of view of encouraging big offers. Hagi has been out so long maybe people have forgotten he’s not great.

That, at any rate, seems to be the thinking. Talking about how great his potential is. If they had to write about his current level, his current performances and what he has given the Ibrox club up until now, they would have very little to say and they know it.

Without a major sale, that club is in a lot of bother.

This is their last card. This is what they have left.

You better believe they are going to play it for all it’s worth, which isn’t much but they have to try.

And it’s going to be amusing watching their attempt.
