What have I been saying recently about our ex-players and a lack of focus?

Giakoumakis was bumping his gums about the poor standard of Scotland now Juranovic has made an even more bizarre statement expressing his regret that we never fought to keep him.

Eah? What planet has he moved to again? He was at Celtic for 18 months.

During that time he was offered a contract extension and improved terms.

Exactly how did we fail to fight to keep him happy? Because we didn’t offer him what he demanded? That’s normal in football negotiations. Beyond that, what was there to talk about?

Sure we could have kept him for the duration of the deal, but who would that have benefited? Not him, and not us. He said he was surprised by the signing of Johnston, but if he was he was the only person on the planet who was. It was crystal clear that Johnston was being brought in because he was being shipped out. Everybody in football knew it.

So what the Hell is he talking about? Hey, I understand that he wants to stay in the good graces of our fans, but did he leave under a cloud? No, everyone wished him well. He didn’t leave enemies behind or any rancour or bitterness, so he’s trying to make friends where that’s not necessary. And in doing so he has cheesed people off by talking crap.

This club would have loved to have kept Juranovic around, but once a footballer isn’t 100% committed to the cause that’s enough for Ange. The Juranovic story had become a soap opera. Even changing agents generated headlines. It was an open secret that he was going to go and he knew it full well. He knew it before Johnston was said and I don’t know who he’s trying to convince otherwise or who he thinks he’s kidding here.

I am honestly baffled as to what he thinks he’s doing. If he misses life at Celtic and is starting to have pangs of regret, then I’m sorry about that of course. He’s not the first player to realise the grass is less green somewhere else and he won’t be the last.

But there is still an awful lot of goodwill for him around these parts and even writing this I don’t have any negative view on the guy.

I just wish he would get on with playing for his new club.

At the end of the day, this was his call before it was ours and the idea that we didn’t fight for him … he’s like someone who cheats on their partner and then slags the partner on for not trying to save the relationship.

I actually could not believe what I was reading last night.

He was still part of Anges set up and he new about rotation of players at club, maybe he should move on, or is there regrets on his behalf?

    • Martin.H says:

He’s moved on, and for what we’ve seen of Alistair Johnston, we made money, and have gained a bit of a player.

The guy tried to hold Celtic to ransom- Ange called his bluff, prepped for the future in buying Johnstone and Josip was left with an option of his own making…see ye…

I must admit that I was surprised by the JJ quote ,then I read it was from the Daily Mail ! Not a Celtic FC friendly Tory tabloid rag ,is it ? I think embellishment might be at play here ,so I take the whole story with a pinch of salt !

He has achieved a good salary increase. That is what he wanted. The German Bundesliga is ranked second to the EPL.
There is a strong relationship with World League Ranking and player salaries. Union Berlin are presently only three points behind Bayern Munich, the best ranked team in World top Leagues.
His World Cup performances, helped greatly in selling him.
What part did his Celtic experience play, in him achieving that level of renown? I guess, quiet a lot.
The players liked Josip, because he was happy an funny.
He did say Ange was a good Manager. If both Josip and Giako knew the amount of heavy lifting
Michael Nicholson put into moving them, they could have publicly thanked him.
Josip was much liked by Celtic Fans. It was good to know his thinking at that time of resolving his future at another club.

  • Johnny Green says:

It seems to me that he had been thinking of moving to another club, because our rotation system left him feeling vulnerable at International level, and Celtic obviously knowing that prepared for his inevitable departure. However, JJ’s nose was out of joint when we did sign his replacement as he was hoping that it would not go that far and that Ange would be more accommodating with his own personal preferences. It was just a case of brinksmanship going wrong for him. Goodbye JJ and good luck.

The Fools Fool I Think He’s Regretting Ever Moving So The Fool Looks Into His Mirror ? & Thinks Looking Back At Himself!! Sh/T I’ve Messed Up Here ?

  • Benjamin says:

Clearly has regrets about how things played out the last 6 months he was here. I wonder how much of this is a result of his prior agent trying to work a new deal and ruining relationships at Celtic in the process. Bringing in a new agent to try and mend those fences, but by then the damage had already been done with Celtic deciding they needed to move on. Pure speculation but something seems to have gone off the rails behind the scenes.

Increasingly in life I’m learning there is no truth, only individually interpreted versions of it. What I do think I know is; I can’t trust whether the source of this article is true. I didn’t interpret that he regretted it. Semper avanti JJ
