Celtic Must Be Baffled By Juranovic’s Latest, Highly Unwelcome, Comments.

What have I been saying recently about our ex-players and a lack of focus?

Giakoumakis was bumping his gums about the poor standard of Scotland now Juranovic has made an even more bizarre statement expressing his regret that we never fought to keep him.

Eah? What planet has he moved to again? He was at Celtic for 18 months.

During that time he was offered a contract extension and improved terms.

Exactly how did we fail to fight to keep him happy? Because we didn’t offer him what he demanded? That’s normal in football negotiations. Beyond that, what was there to talk about?

Sure we could have kept him for the duration of the deal, but who would that have benefited? Not him, and not us. He said he was surprised by the signing of Johnston, but if he was he was the only person on the planet who was. It was crystal clear that Johnston was being brought in because he was being shipped out. Everybody in football knew it.

So what the Hell is he talking about? Hey, I understand that he wants to stay in the good graces of our fans, but did he leave under a cloud? No, everyone wished him well. He didn’t leave enemies behind or any rancour or bitterness, so he’s trying to make friends where that’s not necessary. And in doing so he has cheesed people off by talking crap.

This club would have loved to have kept Juranovic around, but once a footballer isn’t 100% committed to the cause that’s enough for Ange. The Juranovic story had become a soap opera. Even changing agents generated headlines. It was an open secret that he was going to go and he knew it full well. He knew it before Johnston was said and I don’t know who he’s trying to convince otherwise or who he thinks he’s kidding here.

I am honestly baffled as to what he thinks he’s doing. If he misses life at Celtic and is starting to have pangs of regret, then I’m sorry about that of course. He’s not the first player to realise the grass is less green somewhere else and he won’t be the last.

But there is still an awful lot of goodwill for him around these parts and even writing this I don’t have any negative view on the guy.

I just wish he would get on with playing for his new club.

At the end of the day, this was his call before it was ours and the idea that we didn’t fight for him … he’s like someone who cheats on their partner and then slags the partner on for not trying to save the relationship.

I actually could not believe what I was reading last night.
