Steve Conroy is a disgrace.

This is a guy who seems grimly determined to create a media career for himself by stirring the soup every chance he gets and he knows full well that a negative story about a Celtic player is guaranteed to get him in the papers.

The latest target of this appalling tactic is Reo Hatate, who he thinks should get a retrospective red card for a “dive” during the game against Hearts.

Oh there’s nothing controversial about that view, eah?

Nothing about that which will get him in the headlines, except that Reo would miss the game against Ibrox as well as the final, and for what?

For something that this guy thinks happened and which not a soul in the mainstream media commented on. It’s a line so nonsensical Robbie Neilson didn’t bother with it.

Read that again. Robbie Neilson, who never heard an excuse he didn’t like and especially not when it absolves him of responsibility for a loss to Celtic. He didn’t even bother to waste our time or his own with that line of argument.

That’s how pathetic this is. It’s nothing but Conroy trying to get his own name into the papers to promote his nonsense. There is no merit whatsoever to what he’s arguing, he’s simply stoking a controversy for his own ends at the expense of our player.

He can get away with this because there is literally nothing the club can do about it.

Because he’s not in the mainstream, although they lap up this kind of swill.

So banning him will have no effect and Ange, even if asked, would never respond in a way that give this joker more publicity. I’m not even sure I should be writing about him … but as he’s splashed all over the mainstream media tonight it makes little difference overall.

What we bloggers can do is call this out for the cheap and nasty tactic that it is and encourage Celtic fans to consider this behaviour if they are thinking of subscribing.

He wants Hatate given a retrospective red card for something that’s not even a red card offense! The fact that this is coming from a former referee tells you everything you need to know about the state of and quality of refereeing in this country.

He should have just been open and said Hatate should be suspended because he’s a class player and on Celtic’s payroll. It would have generated the same amount of publicity and it would have at least been honest.

It wouldn’t be so bad if they commented only on the facts. Unfortunately Conroy is not exactly a skilled observer. If he looks again, a tad more closely, he will see the lunging Hearts player’s foot make minimal contact with Reo’s right calf. This in itself would not be enough to bring him down, but as the contact was on the outside of the running Reo’s trail leg, there was enough force to push it in far enough, so that as it came forward, it caught against his left heel causing him to sprawl flat on his face. Egg chasers will know this move as a tap tackle. (They use a hand) It is the last resort when an opponent is getting away and is too far away to reach and make a proper tackle.
I am sick fed up hearing pundits, who should be skilled observers, comment along the lines of “There wasn’t enough force in the contact for him to go down.” If anyone is running full speed and their trail leg catches their front foot as they run, the inevitable result is that they fall flat on their face. Umpteen times I have seen us (& other teams) denied a pen when a defender runs across the heels of a player causing them to go down. As there is no move to make a tackle and no apparent “deliberate trip”, the offender goes unpunished.
Conroy, who had a close up view, either saw the minimal contact, or he was penalising the Hearts player for the more obvious 1st foul.
Conroy is merely showing why there was a consensus that he was an incompetent ref when he took charge of matches. He either didn’t see what happened or he has no understanding of movement. Two qualities I would have thought were important for a ref.

This is the most sensible comment to I think I’ve ever seen about these types of trips. Completely agree with every word.

If Clancy awarded a foul for the first challenge (on Kyogo) then, tap tackle or no, its irrelevant. The ball was out of play when Hatate went down. We move on. There’s nothing to see here.

Conroy shat himself when he dissalowed a celtic goal at celtic park a few years ago against sevco.HIS Car plate was ref ,c but when the mob found out he jumped ship.Just look RC that was the end of that dipstick.

  • Jimmy R says:

Edit the first mention of Conroy to read “Clancy, who had a close up view. . .”
    Not Conroy.

  • cowdenpix says:

That podcast is best ignored as it only highlights that the refereeing fraternity are still struggling to grasp the laws of the game they purport to rule over

This is just the start of a long month of what’s going to be amazing hyperbole for them and absolute negativity about us

Day by day , week by week , it’s going to get a hell of a lot worse

James:The “papers”are irrelevant nowadays. Its Blogosphere as you know. I’m 71,
stopped reading the tripe years ago.

  • Michael Clark says:

Your right James, maybe you shouldn’t have mentioned what this maggots attempting but having said that, I’ll get my two cents in.I tend not to look into the background of anyone who writes columns or their comments for or against. This guy in question Reo Hatate is the best football player in Scotland right now. I’ve never seen a foul side to this guy’s game because he’s too busy looking good. So why people like this are allowed a column is beyond me. Have we nothing better to do than even listen to this idiot who’s probably never kicked a ball in his life.

  • Kevan McKeown says:

Usual desperate pro ibrox media tripe. Just a 3rd rate has been, excuse for an x-official, makin himself a few bob tae come out the woodwork and create a negative non-story about Celtic. Incredible how they dig these clowns up.
