Celtic Fans Aren’t The Only Ones Stunned By Record’s Latest Ridiculous Pro-Ibrox Story.

The Daily Record and its sister papers are sometimes so determined to paint a happy picture at Ibrox that they will write stuff that even the fans over there roll their eyes at and find absolutely excruciating.

One of those stories was published last night.

“Rangers carrying the European fight for Scotland as they sit above Barcelona and Real Madrid in UEFA ranking list” is the desperate headline which sat atop Ben Banks latest piece of PR fluff.

Ibrox sits above Real Madrid – the current Champions of Europe – in the five year co-efficient rankings … Jesus wept. I’m sure it’s true … but it’s no less pathetic for it.

“On the UEFA country ranking list of The most successful teams in the last five seasons, the Ibrox club are sixth with a score of 18.125 only bettered by five other clubs, Real Madrid and Barcelona amongst those ranking below them,” this pitiful piece reads.

Four of the five teams above them are Manchester City, Ajax, Bayern Munich and PSG. Know who else finished above them? Dinamo Zagreb. Starting to get the drift now? Know who isn’t above them, other than Real Madrid and Barcelona? Liverpool.

Know why that’s significant? Because Real Madrid won two European Cups in that five-year spell and Liverpool and Chelsea also won one. I’ll tell you who else isn’t on the list. Well Villarreal, Eintracht Frankfurt, Sevilla and Atletico Madrid.

What makes those four teams special? Well they, along with Chelsea, won the Europa League during that five year spell and they finish underneath the Ibrox club on this list. Which should tell you what the list itself is actually worth.

Let’s be honest, all an article like this really does is gives us all an opportunity to remind people of a few salient details. Like how Ibrox is now the holder of the unfortunate record of worst team ever to compete in the Champions League Groups … I mean, I could say that I don’t like writing that sentence but that obviously would be a barefaced lie.

So it’s always nice when someone gives me an excuse to write it.

Ibrox fans are watching their club disintegrate. They are thoroughly ashamed of those six defeats and the scale of some of them. The last thing they want to be reminded about is their “recent European record.”

They fluked their way to a final which they didn’t win, but other than that the idea that they have a record to match the current European champions, or Chelsea, or Liverpool in that time is frankly preposterous and their fans know it as well as we do.

Bad enough that the article should be held up as the proof that their record is more exceptional than those clubs, but that they should be credited as the club which is “flying the flag for Scotland” is typical of the rag responsible … pro-Ibrox guff and an insult to the intelligence even of their desperate fans, who aren’t exactly the smartest kids in the class.

I would certainly buy a season ticket to watch a team that is so highly regarded. 🙂

  • Robert Jenkins says:

The same Swiss site states that they won’t qualify for the Champions League next season.

  • Saulgoodman says:

James i think you are 1 of only a few celtic fans that read that rag of a newspaper

    • S Thomas says:

I still by the papers mate. The thing about just looking at blogs is it’s just pure bias to the teams they support. Follow follow will think the sun shines out beales arse.. and the Celtic blog thinks the sun shines out Ange’s arse. Main stream media is needed to provide coverage from a different angle.

      • Stesano says:

Ha ha whst the hun angle away an no talk nonsense!

        • S Thomas says:

Lol.. who is going to break stories as they happen then.. are you going to get them on a blog who are pure bias to the team they support lol. I enjoy this log as a Celtic supporter, but if I’m wanting breaking stories, with respect jamesInwill still be watching the news etc .

        • S Thomas says:

Mainstream media is needed to bring you exclusives.. you will not get that on a blog.

  • Nicky Bhoy says:

Lets hope ‘Methadone Mick’ believes it and struts accordingly.

  • Jim says:

Even when presented with hard factual contrary evidence they will still stamp their little feet and scream that they are ” The most successful Football Club in the World ”
A very sick Instution from top to bottom.

    • Kevan McKeown says:

@ Jim. Aye they’ll grasp at absolutely anythin tae try and grab false honors and accolades. Tho a word that’s no in their dictionary is ‘perspective’. Throw that intae the mix when they make all these deluded, demented claims and they’re fkt. If yer feelin really good, ye can question how ‘prestigious’ their honors are compared tae every other world club teams and where they stand as far as credibility goes. Fkt again. Reality isnae their strongest attribute.

I read the article and laughed. Why is their co-efficient higher than stellar clubs like Real and Liverpool? It’s largely down to points earned as they played the necessary qualifying rounds to get to the group stages. They didn’t record very many wins in their run to Seville and of course, none at all in their run to the title of the Champions League ‘s worst ever club.
Clubs like Real and Liverpool don’t get the opportunity to boost their club coefficient in the qualifiers because they invariably qualify directly into the CL. Liverpool were incredibly lucky to get some dross in this season’s CL.
DR can write what they like, but when next season comes around we all know which Glasgow club are definitely in the CL and can plan their budget accordingly. Meanwhile, the financially distressed neighbours, with no saleable assets of note, have a squad rebuild to finance.
    Confetti shares anyone?

    • S Thomas says:

You’re bang on the money pal. They get points for winning matches in the qualification stage. Liverpool and Real Madrid are superior in every way possible. Unless you are in Carstairs would you actually take this type of stuff seriously.

      • Johnny Green says:

Nurse, nurse, Sean has broken out of his room again, he says he’s gone to join the season ticket queue. 🙂

    • Kevan McKeown says:

@ jimmy r. Exactly mate. Perspective.

  • Johnno says:

Wouldn’t read any of the shite the Scottish media are prepared to put to print, and by christ that’s got to be right up there with the biggest pile of shite that anyone could ever claim.
Even more embarrassing that some dick head will even put there name to it.
Only highlights the stink of desperation with even more to come next week still.
Only the thick zombie DOBs could entertain such bullshit and still enough for many of the dopes to be rushing out to get there ST in and getting even more pain in return for the punishment we will continue to hand out to such filth

  • Adam Thomas says:

These are the points which give you seedings in the pots for group stages and if it wasn’t for there points Scotland would not have a team going directly into champions league.

  • Jack says:

If you want to have a wee bit of fun, Google an image of the Real Madrid trophy cabinet.

  • Stesano says:

No one ever talks about that Dortmund game where they got to play in their favourite scenario , yep a near empty stadium!! Just like covid was their bag ha ha Hey the record knows is customer base the halfwits of the ” larkies and harrhills etc and don’t huns just love ” comforting lies ” ha ha Well they need to eh Deep down they also know they stood back and let oldco die!! Ha ha what a rid neck that truly was and an age of internet banking to ha ha now that truly showed how little they cared , they only used oldco like newco for their hate ! No love in that hellhole ha ha Another TREBLE incoming!! Love it!

  • Johnny Green says:

It’s not meant to be taken seriously, it’s meant to bolster season ticket sales to gullible huns. In that context it will most likely be a success.

  • Sun Tsu says:

The kid on “journo” who scribbled this load of click bait pish is probably some wee diddy from the Mail room. Rummage about in the detritus and you’ll find some shite to appeal to the gullibillies, not the sharpest tools in the box. STs for sale! Magic beans as well.???
