Ibrox Coach Gets Six Match Ban For His Cowardly Attack On Celtic’s Fran Alonso.

HAMPDEN

Craig McPherson, the Ibrox women’s team coach who tried to put the nut on Celtic’s women’s manager Fran Alonso, and who also called him a “little rat” has been banned for six games.

To many of us that’s going to seem fairly tame.

He could have been, and probably should have been, banned for a lot more games than that.

The feeling persists that had he worked at Celtic he would also have been fired before we even got here.

Your club either has standards or it doesn’t, I guess.

McPherson himself apologised some days after the incident, but the club itself has not uttered one single word about it. The women’s manager at Ibrox said that there would be an investigation into the matter; that’s as close to an acknowledgement as we’ve had that those in charge over there expect their staff to behave appropriately.

We have no way of knowing if there was an investigation, what it found or what measures the club took itself. Of course, this case just days after the announcement that Celtic would not be accepting tickets for Ibrox due to concerns about the safety of our fans.

It came just days before three Ibrox players were sent off in a B team game.

One of them later had the red card rescinded on appeal.

Celtic will play the Ibrox club at the end of this month at Hampden in the Scottish Cup semi-final. I would not expect that there will be many warm handshakes and good wishes between the two directors boxes.

Relations between the clubs are at rock bottom.
