The Pro-Ibrox Media Did Their Best To Spin Celtic’s Title Triumph. It Was Pathetic.

Yesterday, whilst sitting in the Celtic Sports Bar after the celebrations, I caught sight of BBC Sport Scotland’s brief summary of the Ibrox game whilst I was checking their website to see what had happened in the late flashpoint at Tynecastle.

This is what their website summary said.

“Two fine solo strikes from Fashion Sakala, while Antonio Colak, back after a few weeks out injured, nodded in a third from close range. It means Rangers finish on 92 points – a tally that would have been enough to win the Scottish Premiership five times in the last 10 years.”

Just when you think our media could not be any more pathetic, along then comes something even worse, and this from The Scotsman.

“Michael Beale succeeds where predecessor failed as Rangers top Celtic for points during his tenure” reads the screaming headline on a piece by resident Sevconut Graeme McPherson. It might be the most ridiculous thing I’ve read all weekend, and I include Hugh Keevins latest piece of vomiting inducing cringe amongst that.

We have all sorts of these clowns in our media, writing nonsense like this, trying to make diamonds out of Ibrox’s dog-shit season. We switched off after the title was won.

The proof that we did that was obvious yesterday when we showed up for business. The Mooch took over a team that was nine points behind; they, and he, have been playing largely without pressure all season, except in the cups when it crushed them.

There is a special kind of pressure when everyone is “back to zero” as he put it yesterday.

He’s going to find that out next year. We’ll see how he copes with it.

The celebrations have also had a seriously negative slant put on them by news of arrests.

There is nothing about whether Celtic fans were the ones arrested and nothing about who the people hospitalised were, or who put them in hospital … minor matters like that, which might put things in some kind of context, are unimportant to our media.

The media thinks we’re stupid and that we don’t understand that the Ibrox club were playing in Paisley, not that far away, and many of their fans would have been heading back into Glasgow as the party was in full swing, so who’s to say who caused the trouble we’re hearing about? And even if this was drunken Celtic fans … ten arrests out of many, many, many thousands is not some sort of earth shattering scandal, although the press would love to paint it as one.

There are online reports of other arrests at the weekend, which I can’t confirm.

One of the reasons you might not get much commentary on it is that this was to do with an orange parade, and our media goes out of its way not to comment on what they cost the taxpayer, the NHS and Police Scotland every year … amazing how civic minded these same journalists get about Celtic fans causing a little bit of litter and the odd arrest.

Anything to put a negative slant on what we celebrated yesterday. The party next weekend is going to eclipse it though, and the will, again, attempt to stick their own ugly narrative on events.

It will make no difference to us … our club is in a good place and we’re entitled to celebrate that fact.

But it is shocking how often the media tries to do this to us.

Still the only acceptable form of discrimination in Scotland.Hiding in plain sight.Travel anywhere outside Scotland’s border and you see just how shitty, insular and backward this place is.Certainly in the central belt anyway.

I watched drone footage of the celtic party in the city centre.
If there was low double figure arrests in a gathering like that ,I would count that as incredible.
What is the arrest numbers on a normal Saturday in the city centre .
Celtic supporters have shown that they can gather in large numbers and largely behave when celebrating the teams achievments.
Where is the plaudits of the police and the Scottish government. Why are they not highlighting it
Was there any riot police deployed yesterday
Was the town centre smashed up .
Why do they feel they need to play down a
mainly gathering of a very large amount of people with mostly just celebration on their minds

  • John Copeland says:

Why would they change the habits of a lifetime ? Their anti Celtic FC criticisms come with the dinner with incredible regularity ! The trick is to win every single season and chortle uncontrollably at their futile attempts to look and sound fair and honest in all of their disappointments

  • harold shand says:

The Semi Final and the Final defeat under his watch are not to be talked about

Just like not conceding a penalty in a full league season

Hugh Keevins nonsense today in the Sunday Mail where he says they finished the season on a high is just mental levels of spin

  • Johnno says:

Wouldn’t insult my eyes by reading anything the Scottish media prints, and would be worse upon myself by taking any heed of the shite they’re desperately trying to spin.
Just to follow in the scums footsteps with lies and bollocks is all there any good at doing.
In the meantime all we are left with doing, is making total eejits out of them, and we still continue in doing so rather well.
Suppose we must all be just as LUCKY as Ange now

  • Peterbrady says:

It’s all the scum have before they disappear into there hovels hoping for bigot beaton scum McLean var hampdump blazers we never stop in Ange we trust HAIL! HAIL!.

  • Ryan Ellis says:

Are you absolutely sure that this is the case James? I’d love to think that our own weren’t doing this but, like every team, we do have our arseholes who want to make it all about them. I hope it’s not I hope that we’re better than that but I’m not so one-eyed that I think it’s impossible. Unfortunately.

  • Johnny Green says:

When you are shovelling ice cream and jelly down your gullet washed down by Champagne there are bound to be some spillages, hence the litter. It’s not something you can recycle easily. Same again next week so perhaps the cooncil can supply special bins for the occasion. Bubblybins would be very welcome.

  • Johnny Green says:

By the way, when I read twisted stories like that, I feel their pain and I smile inwardly with quiet satisfaction.

  • Effarr says:

It could have just as easily mentioned that over the final two games of the season the
Hibs manager went toe to toe with Beale.

  • Brian Cavanagh says:

Cut and paste stuff from fans with keyboards masquerading as professional journalists. Bad enough that they write it, worse that editors think it is worthy of printing.

Dont seem to remember Tommy Burns getting such glowing headlines when we came second when he was manager.

  • Michael Clark says:

Let them get lost in their unimportant world. The whole lot of them just can’t help themselves. We’re on the verge of completing the treble yet their bleating on a load of bullshit and its starts from the top all the way to the bottom. I watched the girls beating Rangers again today in their Scottish cup final and the commentary was just about in tears. They just can’t beat us when it matters and they know it. They also know that come next Saturday evening after our Scottish cup final Ange Postecoglou will be gearing up getting a new look Celtic ready for the Champions league. So let them get on making small talk and we’ll get on with winning trophies

  • Sparky says:

Litter wtf over the twelfth in the North of ireland parts of the city look like they’ve been nuked. And I’ve never read a report in any news paper or tv about Litter and asking the council for comment ?

  • Therese Storrie says:

There was more much more * incidents* in one never mind 2 riots in George Square that didn’t get reported or how many got arrested The media darlings didn’t give Sevco as much of a write up with all the fights and mess they left
Broken benches and fighting dosent mean as much to them as a few out of 1,000s arrests and a bit of litter
No wonder their readers are leaving in droves
I’ve not bought a newspaper in any shape or form since the dreadful – Thieves and Thugs lie

  • Magua says:

I don’t actually mind those who talk up Beale. For my money, the man is not a very good manager. Without their weekly favours from the refereeing fraternity, the Huns would, at best, be noted in mid-table mediocrity. Beale Must Stay!!

    Hail Hail.

  • Magua says:

Noted should of course read rooted. Feckin’ autocorrect.

    Hail Hail.
