What a weird day this has been on Celtic social media.
Even as we wait for Friday and the first words from the manager, some people have pulled the tinfoil hats on.
Charlie Nicholas went full on tonto this morning in The Express, writing an article so rambling and shambling that even Mark Dingwall would have considered it too moronic to defend.
I read Nicholas’ piece several times and I’m still trying to work out what the central point of it was. He thinks the Rodgers decision is good for Celtic but that it makes Rodgers bigger than Celtic and that Dermot Desmond is a bad man and doesn’t care about the club because he never attends games unless there’s a shiny thing being awarded and that our club has gone backwards but that he thinks it was the right move and he’ll be interested to see how It goes.
It’s nothing but a mad rant looking for a point.
I find some of it frankly hilarious, including his snark at Ange Postecoglou for “quitting the club for the bright lights of London.”
Because, of course, Charlie, no-one at Celtic ever did that before, eah?
He has an “issue” with Desmond for going back to Rodgers (presumably forgetting he himself returned to Celtic not once but twice and he took the wages each time), and for his sparse attendance at games.
I wonder when Nicholas last attended Celtic Park when someone wasn’t giving him cash to do it? Has he ever put his hand in his pocket and actually paid for a Celtic game since the 70’s? I find this guy impossible to take seriously.
Rumour has it that Rodgers’ salary is being met by Desmond. There are rumours that he paid Rodgers’ salary before.
Even if that’s not true, Desmond has millions of pounds of his own money tied up in the club, being the largest individual shareholder.
Nicholas spent his career earnings on … err … a media company which went bust.
You read him and you can’t help but understand why.
Is this the same Charlie who allegedly took Clyde to the cleaners.
It won’t come as a shock to any of us who endured his imaginatively titled autobiography that Charlie Nicholas talks or writes utter nonsense, meandering off-piste quite alarmingly at times, and that was with the Shakespeare of the Redtops himself (Ken Gallacher) trying his best to turn Charlie’s Joyce-esque stream of consciousness musings into some recognisable form of coherent prose.
I’m not going to track down the offending article to read it as past experience strongly suggest the only useful purpose it will ever serve is to wrap up some nice hot chips…..
Lol on FF there is an article saying they want £20 million each for Lowry and Lawrence.
I would rather read FF any day of the week than any Scottish paper for sure – At least they condemn their own team if they lose or play pish – unlike the media who should but won’t according to our blogs information…
Charlie an easy target James.. you should be writing about the green brigade and their stupid stupid banner they put it again. Brendan Rodgers will be polarizing to some of the fan base.. me personally I like Brendan, but I get some of the fan base will have their own views. The green brigade think they are bigger than the club with that garbage, we should be getting behind the team and new management. These guys really are not the brightest.
Agreed my friend. They need a reality check sometimes.
1x stupid, and out lol
Totally agree S Thomas, get behind him.
Once this Celtic team start notching up the results and they will, all will be forgiven. We’ve all got short memories and smiley faces when we’re winning every week. Rogers was always the man to hit the ground running after Postecoglou bailed out. That’s why Desmond pulled out all the stops to get him. He’s a smart man, that’s why he’s a billionaire.
James. You have me in stitches!! I stumbled on his farcicle this afternoon and I knew, I just knew it would get you riled up!! I’d have loved to have seen your face when reading it.
I have to agree with you, it was nonsensical and pointless. What I’m surprised about is his complete failure to look at this from a footballing point of view, and what I mean by that is as you said the other day, the mans credentials.
Nicolas still doesn’t get we’re a huge big massive club with an estimated over 9 million supporters world wide. Rodgers is a big name manager but he, like many of the famous players that have come through our doors and the ones still to come will never ever be bigger than the club. Thanks Charlie. Next caller please!
Is it not the case that a non-domicile is only allowed 46 days in any year to live in the country, hence Desmond`s reluctance to waste good golfing time on boring meetings at Parkhead?
