The Celtic Boss And Maybe Our New Bhoy Will Be “Unveiled” Tomorrow To A Stunned Media.

Tomorrow afternoon, when Brendan Rodgers sits in front of our media – mainstream and fan – he is advised to try and bear something big in mind.

Most of the people in the room will be unable to believe that they are there. For a lot of our fans it is a seismic shock. For many of the hacks it is much, much worse than that. For them, this is their worst nightmare given form and made flesh.

Because this was not supposed to happen.

When Ange Postecoglou went south we were supposed to be plunged into a crisis.

Instead we will have a top class coach sitting there and possibly alongside a top class signing. Thiago Holm’s capture was confirmed today; a five-year deal and a cost of around £2.5 million. It is a great first statement of intent from the club.

Brendan Rodgers has made it clear that he fully signed off on this deal, whilst pointing out that the player was scouted and eyeballed before his arrival. He has checked the guy out, and sat down and spoken to him. He sounds enthusiastic, and we should all be.

This is the start of the next phase of life at Celtic, and it is a promising one.

This is the way to do an unveiling.

A manager and a player at the same time, and a clear statement of intent for the rest of the summer.

I have no doubt that there are going to be some pretty abnormal questions about loyalty and commitment and trust from the same hacks who never asked one such question of The Mooch … and never will.

Celtic fan media will have questions of their own, but they will be motivated by wanting the best for the club.

Some of the hacks will be there simply to cause trouble and try to sew division. I cannot accentuate the point enough that some of these people are stunned because they had been hoping to come to this presser to cover a shit-show, wherein we had unveiled some lesser individual, someone who they could paint as being out of his depth.

Instead the guy who won five trophies out of six has been replaced by the one who won seven out of seven last time around, and some of them have yet to process the full implications of that in their brains. That Brendan Rodgers will be sitting there, and possibly with his first signing beside him, is a shattering of their best summer fantasy.

Imagine how some of them – those who have already processed it – feel tonight.

Those who were offering to “drive Ange to London” and other such nonsense.

It’s no coincidence that some of their outlets published “managerial shortlists” on which names like Scott Brown and John Kennedy appeared prominently. That’s what they were hoping for.

So Rodgers should be bracing himself for some inane, even ridiculous, questions … and a sort of floating disbelief that he’s even there at all. If Holm is sitting next to him, this will be one wild introduction to the Scottish hacks.

At least one of whom will ask him whether he sees Celtic as a stepping stone to the Premier League.

Welcome back, Brendan Rodgers … no-one can say you don’t know what you’ve let yourself in for.

    Very smart move!

Several steps ahead of the copy/pasters of the SMSM.

The new manager turns up on day 1 – along with his first signing?

    No messing about.

And it reduces the churnalists’ time to ask negative, provocative questions.

    I’m warming to BR’s return already! 🙂

  • Effarr says:

The last time, before Postecuckoo, they had Arlene Foster at 100/1 and Neil Lennon and Stuart Baxter joint favourites. You see, they are such loving chaps who enjoy a bit of fun.
