For those Celtic fans who worry that we have gone, or are going, backwards at the moment, I would urge that you watch the club from Ibrox for the sake of comparison. They are our closest rivals. They have spent a large amount of money “improving” their first team. And they are awful to watch in a way that would make me want to gouge my eyes out if it was us.
They’ve just beaten Morton 2-1 playing what I can only describe as football as a form of torture. Every single thing I’ve been saying – that their entire tactical approach is based on brute force, on hoofing the ball up the park to the big strikers, or trying to cross the ball into them, was borne out today in what was a hideous display. That was fun to watch only because it’s them, not us, but if that was your own side you would already be questioning the wisdom of buying a season ticket.
Neutrals would have switched that off before half time.
The idea that they are any improvement on last season is mad. They look far worse. They look both pedestrian and very, very predictable. A better team than Morton would have inflicted real pain on them today. If PSV do not put four by them I’ll be astonished.
I think we could badly beat them as well, whatever our own frailties. They will, in the next few weeks, play two sides who are vastly better than any they’ve played so far, and the teams they have played so far across three competitions have shaken them to their core.
Whatever the media will say about that performance today, their own fans know exactly what they are watching and the fear is coming off them in waves. They cannot fathom what The Mooch is up to with his tactics, but they know they do not like them.
I’ve never thought his teams were that great to watch and we beat them last season in all the games that mattered. Rodgers will have watched every minute of them that he can find and I have little doubt he will know exactly how to set up against them in a fortnight,
It’s not impossible that they will improve over their next three matches, PSV home and away and Ross County up in Dingwall, but right now he is surviving game to game and I see no signs whatever that this is about to suddenly, dramatically, change.
There is a growing sense, even amongst their hard-core, that they are one or two bad results from a death spiral, and everywhere they look the see the potential for those reversals, and they are not wrong, because they are there for the taking at the moment.
Christ, as I said earlier, the Union Bears will regard a win over us as something significant enough to celebrate in George Square … as grotesque as that spectacle would be, there’s a backhanded compliment to us in there which they probably aren’t even fully aware of.
That’s what we’ve reduced them to; proposing a party just for drawing level in the league. For us, it is just another three points. For them, it’s everything. How embarrassing.
Keeping the small club mentality is all that’s required for the thick zombie Hun hoards to keep them happy.
The little bits I’ve seen of the scum, agree with you James that they have looked like dog shit.
Today was about the back up players giving a chance to shine, yet failed miserably, so only so much turd polishing the scum cheerleaders can promote.
No wonder they spend so much time upon focusing upon ourselves.
Tomorrow is a fantastic opportunity to turn the screw of fear upon them, with winning while so many key players missing.
The best part of the scums season could well fall apart over the next 2 weeks, with ourselves adding the final nails into there coffins.
Believe it will happen and will enjoy every minute of watching it happening to such scum with a shite team.
your level of confidence is starting to worry me ibrox will be a test even if something drastic happens to them before then.
Yes, sevco is still struggling.
A couple of things noticed from today’s game;
1) Viaplay censoring the crowd noise.
Throughout the game, there was just a background, rumbling crowd noise:
no chanting, no songs, and no booing at half-time?!
2) Beale was arrogant to start with, in effect, a second team.
It’s not as though his first team has clcked yet: they need the practice
even with the risk of injuries.
Beale needs a miracle to get past PSV.
Interesting mate, I was watching it in the pub and didn’t notice that.
Might be worth doing some digging about.
James, imo it’s not the team were concerned about it’s the brutal tackles and var decisions that this mob of scum will get from the most crooked officials in world football.
They didn’t look too bad 2nd half Tuesday showing some ability to kick and dive their way to success but after yesterday’s big reveal I’m more worried about our own club’s actions
Brutal and boo’d at the end of a win.
It is good that they are only ‘scraping’ by – But there is danger lurking out there with The Dark Arts and underhand skulduggery that is tragically a cancerous sore in The Scottish Game…
Incredibly they had a penalty awarded against them today (it must be noted that it is always v Lower League opponents and in the cup competitions that this takes place) and never ever it seems in The SPFL Premier League And it’s not so very long ago that Beaton created a five point swing by awarding them Sevco a penalty that never was and denying Celtic the most obvious penalty for handball in the sordid history of The Scottish Game by a basketball level offence by Goldson in The New Year Glasgow Derby…
So danger is very much out there for Celtic in The Shadowy and murky world of Scottish Football – certainly with a referee, two linesmen, a fourth official, a VAR official and an assistant VAR official just to be sure !
Hopefully a runaround and a doing by PSV Eindhoven will hit them both mentally and physically, but with the ‘witchdoctor’ back there who knows what will happen – Apart from NOT being tested for illegal performance and fitness narcotic testing in Scotland !
Fascist scum.
This is the reason our club is not reaching its potential, because we are comparing ourselves with a basket case in Sevco. Our board know, just beat Sevco and fans are happy. We haven’t won a knockout tie in 20 years, just let that sink in.Coincides, perfectly with Peter Lawell. Our policy is make sure we finish above Sevco and bank the rest. If we create a gap, curb spending to allow Sevco to catch up. If you think differently, you’re a mug. Just business guys again, nothing personal. Why Celtic never over complain about the farcical refereeing, its designed to keep Sevco in touch. You’re being conned in plain sight, what stage does the penny drop?
That might be the best comment I’ve ever read from a Celtic fan on this or any other Celtic blog.
Ruud Van Nistelrooy will more than fancy his chances against the Rangers this time around. Their toughest opponents to date was Kilmarnock and they lost. Beale whittled on after the Livvi game that they were scoring goals but nothing was mentioned about the fact that 3 of the 4 scored was in the last 10 minutes. Once Rogers is up to speed with Celtic this season I’m convinced this season will be a canter but I have no doubt he’s got his eyes firmly focused on the Champions league, thats where he’ll get gudged and he knows it.
If they beat us, and it’s a big IF!! They might still be behind us in the league, we will beat St Johnstone however not so sure how they will do against Ross County.
Two massive games against PSV, Lose the first one (hopefully) massive pressure on a team that are already looking tired and pedestrian so early in the season.
Bang on Sid, those sort of stats go unmentioned. We should set our standard, We are Celtic.
One Club since 1888. HH
Certainly the worst Rangers*’ team in their existence (since 2012) and also the the original club.
