Oh man. Andy Walker. The only reason to miss him is that you might end up with Kenny Miller doing commentary on Sky Sports Scotland instead. Other than that, there’s no reason to ever want him to commentate on a Celtic match again.
For someone who had two spells at Celtic Park, he has never known the club as well as he’s frequently made out. He talks about the fans as if he has been sitting in the stand with us for years when, actually, most of us can’t stand him.
He has made a living out of running us down when the opportunity arises, and whilst he also talks up sometimes, he’s not plugged in at Celtic and largely has no idea what’s going on inside our walls.
Today he’s banging on about Matt O’Riley, for no reason whatsoever except that the boy is playing pretty well and that’s given him his window.
Look, I don’t mind that Walker is ignorant of goings on inside Celtic, as long as he’s not pretending to be an expert. But what to make of the assertion that Ange would want him at Spurs and that O’Riley would in a rush to leave us for them?
Which part of O’Riley preferring playing for Rodgers has he missed? I’m not saying that O’Riley didn’t like Ange; this is not Giakoumakis here.
But he has made his preference for Rodgers clearly and he and our former manager have taken a few shots at each other. So he’s going to go to Spurs, is he? To play for a guy whose disdain for him is known?
Would he get into the team? O’Riley wants to play every week. This is where Rodgers has made him feel more at ease.
Rodgers values him as a key player, which there’s some doubt that Ange ever did. On top of that, since we know Ange wasn’t his biggest fan why in God’s name would Ange ever make the offer for him in the first place?
Walker really does talk rot at times, but he increasingly sounds like a Keevins type who doesn’t really get what it is that he’s yammering about.
No thought whatsoever went into this before the words came out of his mouth. He just sounds stupid.
O’Riley will probably go to England at some point, but I get the impression that this guy has a lot of unfinished business here.
Christ almighty, he’s just signed a new contract, like a matter of weeks ago … he’s hardly banging on the manager’s door demanding a move.
Walker knows this. He also knows that “Ex-Celtic player says current Celtic player would jump at a move” is a cheap and easy way to get headlines.
If he ever wants to know why he’s not exactly beloved in these parts … this would be part of the reason right here.
I seen him in the Sky Lounge at Glasgow Airport and , I would bet my bottom dollar that there was a few Celtic fans in there and to a man, not one of us said hello to that rotten faced wee shit, I did say hello to Chris Commons who was there with the wife and kids. Horrible human being.
Walker knows what side his bread is buttered on these days…
He used to be a hero of mine growing up – That seems so very very long ago –
That he openly implored and lauded players to cheat really says it all…
In the pub every week you could hear the decibels in his voice rise in excitement when Sevco scored –
Very strange for an alleged Celtic supporter…
But maybe not if you’re getting paid by Sky Sports Scotland !
Running us down seems to be the ‘happy place’ for so many at sky. Btw when you brought up that Windy Miller name, you always invoke my memory of a man I witnessed miss so many one on one breakaways in Copenhagen in a CL group from which we actually did qualify though lost 3-0. It’s not really a memory, more of a recurring nightmare.
In spite of that, my other memory of that particular hailstone disaster of a night was a bloody good time with wifey at an Irish bar in the Square straight after the game that went on ’til 6 in the morning.
You also, as a result of wiping him from your memory I hope, or Ass (especially for you haters of Americanisms), forgot to mention the amazing pundit that is sky’s Clit Blob.
Like you all I’m sure, I’m hoping for a resounding defeat at the midden for the hunscum tonight even though I’ve got that horrible feeling that, having somehow fluked a defensive draw away against them last time, that I’m about to be on the receiving of another nightmare.
Regardless I just hope their European exploits take a lot more out of them than us, as evidenced by our horrible Hibs away day after the last Atletico CL game and we do what they couldn’t; beat Aberdeen at home. HH
