Another match against the Ibrox club, another epic embarrassment for Hearts. Their record against this mob is truly dire.
There might be teams in the country whose performances against them have been worse in these past few years, but none which takes itself so seriously and claims for all the world that it is a “big club” with grand ambitions.
It is 2012 since they last won anything. They’ve had spells out of the league in the interim.
Robbie Neilson has been manager twice. John McGlynn has had it. Gary Locke. Ian Cathro. Craig Levein. Daniel Stendel and now Steven Naismith. That’s underwhelming to say the least. How many of them have been Budge appointments? Is it starting to add up?
There’s no happy ending for them at the back of this. Naismith is the final proof of the mediocrity that has settled over that whole club.
I thought re-appointing Neilson was a fairly desperate act, one in a long line of them, and that he was a dreadful manager who only talked a good game, but he looks like a footballing giant next to the man they replaced him with.
A former captain Naismith might have been, but that only goes to show the risks attendant with clubs acting out of sentiment and thinking that means more than it does. We made our Lennon mistake. Scott Brown is the one I truly dread, and I am seized by fear that our board might make that colossal error at some time in the future, well before he’s ready.
(If he’s ever ready, and that’s not a given although some people talk about it as if it’s inevitable. It is very, very far from that.)
Hearts are a terrible side, run dreadfully by a board which doesn’t seem able to translate any of its ambitions into reality.
The wait for a major honour goes on after today. Had they started the game with a bit of intent they might have gotten more for their trouble than the 3-1 loss. There’s no point in putting men behind the ball in a winner-takes-all knockout game … yet that’s the strategy they chose to apply this afternoon. What stupidity.
And the inevitable happened. Penalty to Sevco. Tavernier. Of course. It was a penalty too, not even the least doubt about the call.
But that’s another part of the problem. This is exactly what Ibrox relies on. When teams sit back and invite them to run at them mistakes will be made and our officials will always punish those mistakes. It was a matter of time.
It’s not the failure to beat this Ibrox team, or even to show up against them for more than short spells, that entitles Hearts fans to want more, to demand more, from their club.
They are miles off it in the league right now as well, sitting in fifth right now and scraping out the odd result. The gap between them and the top two is embarrassing. Their overall performances this season have been rank, and the vast number of empty seats in their parts of the ground show you exactly what their fans thought of their chances today and about the team as a whole.
But they are the only ones who can change anything here and it’s time for them to make their voices heard.
If they continue accepting this descent into irrelevance that’s what they are going to be.
If they continue tolerating mediocrity it’s all they’ll ever get.
Lol a nickel&dime team and manager with a nickel&dime board FLEECING their support every season,Kelty Hearts would have put up a better performance today than that DROSS that showed.
As for sevco the belt and braces penalty was inevitable, nailed on. I’m quite surprised the cream cookies haven’t stopped taking bets on Tavpen as the first goalscorer or even at anytime in the game as the BIGOTED KLUB are guaranteed a penalty every game.
And when the cream cookies stop taking bets that’s when you really do know the ball is burst.
I agree with what you say. However, I don’t give a shit about the rancid diet huns.
Hell mend them I say. They’ve got the ownership they deserve and will keep bending over taking it up the Ronson from their big cousins.
I do care about Celtic and our own directors colluding in the corruption in Scottish football to the detriment of our club and the advantage of sevco.
We, like everyone else in Scotland is disadvantaged on a weely basis, but worse than that, Lawwell et al have nothing to say about the weekly assaults on players, Kyogo being a prime example. Grabbed by the throat and flung to the ground, and the perpetrators know they will get away with it.
If I were a player considering coming to the club, I would be most concerned about the fact that its guardians appear to think it’s OK to assault players in full view of everyone and not a word is said about it.
If I played at the club, such a factor would influence any decision whether to stay or leave.
Keeping silent will only ensure it continues, and God only knows what Brendan thinks about it.
Great points, Tony.
Hail Hail.
I absolutely despise you lot…..But you’re spot on!!
Haha appreciate it mate!
CELTIC CELTIC THATS THE TEAM FOR ME
Bringing Celtic into it when he’s getting done by refs in games against Rangers
Can’t wait to see that wee c*nt getting his jotters
The Celtic blog?
You’re new here so you’re obviously confused, although this has been made clear so many times it should be obvious, and I’ve stated it in blogs, on Twitter, on podcasts and in so many comments it shouldn’t need saying;
THIS IS NOT A CELTIC SITE. IT’S NOT BEEN A CELTIC SITE IN YEARS.
This is a Scottish football site written from a Celtic perspective. It’s literally the first choice I made when I started running it. This site is about the game in Scotland; the media, the other clubs, the scandals, the stories … I am a Celtic fan, the site features Celtic to a large extent because that’s my club … but in general terms this is NOT strictly a Celtic site. Which is why I’ve written about Hearts, Hibs, Aberdeen, the national team, the politics of the game, the SFA, the SPFL, UEFA and other issues … it’s why today I’ll publish a piece on St Johnstone.
Don’t let the name fool you. It was here before me.
Another needless penalty gift from hearts when they were in with a shout. After that it was predictable. Tho have tae say, if we lost our league tae that lot, we must be really bad. Again up until hearts blew it, ah saw nothin, not a thing, tae be concerned about. Slow, flat dross, goin nowhere. Of course now it’s ‘fabulous phillipe’ and he’ll be held up as a tactical genius before tomorrow. The delusional hype’s never far away.
Quite agree , we have a embarrassing record against the old firm . The players at this club aren’t giving 100 %. We need change and fast ,or we are going to be in deep trouble. The club have to consider there fans who come week in and week out to support . A new manager to put the confidence back in the team and bring back the good old days back to Tynecastle.and then we can maybe think about challenging the old firm
There is no old firm, mate.
Rangers died and Sevco are a new club assembled from bit parts Charlie Green dragged out of dead Rangers’ grave.
Keith you are the problem you your club and all your supporters know there is no such thing as OF. There is Glasgow Celtic and there is sevco but if you or your club say this you becomes target for the zombies and all there media bigots .
Yes your right James. It was a penalty and so are most of the penalties the Ibrox club get. But the big difference is they nearly always get them where Celtic and other teams don’t. The Scottish game is corrupt and has been even worse in favour of Sevco since VAR came.
Hearts are garbage. Snivelling Naismouth talks sh-ote, and has no clue on how to win a game. Dross is the best term for this load of losers. Budge is woeful – no idea how to run a club. Budge OOT
I am a Hearts’ supporter … and I agree with EVERY word said in the above article
