Mad Ibrox Fans Call For “Sporting Integrity” Forfeit As Ross County Game Is Called Off.

The dumbest fans in football are determined to prove it again today, it seems, as their forums are filled with demands for “sporting integrity” after their game tonight was called off because the Ross County team are unable to travel for the match.

Police Scotland and the SPFL agreed to the postponement because, to put it bluntly, the roads from Dingwall are like you might find in Antarctica. Even the Ice Road Truckers wouldn’t try and get a bus full of footballers to Glasgow in those conditions.

Storm Gerrit (as in Gerrit Right Up You, Celtic Can Go Eight Clear On Saturday) will presumably also take down the Aberdeen-Motherwell match but that’s not going to make a blind bit of difference to Billy Bigot and his mates on the dodgy Ibrox fan sites.

Their logic is that Ross County should have had some psychic seers in their employ, foreseen the scale of the terrible weather days ago and came up to Glasgow on Boxing Day rather than spend that with their families. And because they didn’t, these moon-howlers believe that they are entitled to stamp their feet and demand the 3-0 forfeiture.

There are a handful who think it’s a good thing, on even more ludicrous grounds than some Timmy Conspiracy; they think they have missed the risk of a “tactical red card” given to one of their best players – by SFA refs! At Ibrox! – and they are breathing a sigh of relief over that being taken out of the equation. You could not dream these people up in fiction.

I think this helps us, so I can understand their mewling. I’d rather have points on the board than games in hand piling up any day of the week, and this way they’re still coming to Celtic Park knowing no result puts them top, which would have been a massive psychological lift to them.

That has been ripped away. A Celtic win and they will sweat every minute from now until those two games are won and the points bagged, by which time who knows where this race will be.

Still, to be demanding a forfeit is crazy even by their standards.

We live in Scotland, for God’s sake, where the term “inclement weather” means 100mph winds or snow six inches deep, where rain is something we take for granted and the summer lasts a fortnight. So it’s not as if this is completely unprecedented or unheard of.

For a club which is supposed to be on a roll and completely confident of overhauling ours, they sure do seem jumpy and nervous. Whatever swagger they try to portray is as fake as powdered egg.
