The Matt O’Riley Story Is A Joke. There Is No Way He Leaves Celtic “On Loan” In January.

The Matt O’Riley story doing the rounds today … what a waste of everyone’s time and attention that is. The idea that he’s leaving Celtic “on loan” in January, that we would entertain such an idea, is frankly too stupid to even debate.

The media doesn’t half run some nonsense at times. And the thing of it is, everyone involved in this story knows that’s exactly what it is. The prospect of it happening is zero, it’s another effort from the media to stir the soup pot because we’re having some difficulty, a free shot at unsettling one of our players which shows them up.

Even if Inter’s interest in real, there is no way that Celtic is going to allow O’Riley to leave as a loanee, it’s an insult to the club and its an insult to the player. Are sides in the habit of letting their best players leave on loan? No, if you could grill the source of this story to name one occasion on which he could recall that happening he wouldn’t be able to give you a straight answer.

I’m not even doing the “if this happens heads better roll” stuff. Because it’s simply not going to happen and there is not a single person who will read that story who will entertain the thought for one second that it will.

We’re going to have to tolerate all the usual transfer window nonsense that stalks this club at a time like this, but we don’t have to entertain or tolerate fiction, which is what this story represents. Pure fiction. Inter Milan is not run by stupid people and they wouldn’t even waste their time with an approach such as this. Ask Rodgers and he’ll laugh.

All of us have developed a high tolerance for the kind of stuff the media writes, but this crosses boundaries because everyone promoting the story knows there to be nothing in it. Which means that it’s just an insult to our collective intelligence.
