Andy Walker Has Misrepresented Celtic’s Position On The Ibrox Ticket Affair Again.

What is it with our former players when it comes to the Ibrox ticket standoff? Is Chris Sutton really the only one of them with the guts to tell the truth about that, and point out to people where the blame lies? We’ve had Mark Wilson and others misrepresent this matter several times already and this weekend Andy Walker was doing it, and not for the first time.

Walker’s comments, on PLZ, were that he believed the “talks” between the two clubs were nothing but smoke and mirrors. A “token gesture” he called it.

Wow. Do you think he came to that conclusion all by himself, or did he need a team of advisors working on it? The blogs had already revealed them to be that and the club itself had confirmed it through STV. That story was what we all thought it was; leaked by Ibrox to try to make them sound reasonable and responsible at Celtic’s expense.

So as far as I’m concerned, Walker should get no points for seeing through an obvious charade, and especially so long after the fact when we’d already had that established. But he gets even less credit for what he said next; ““I don’t think you are ever going back to seven or eight thousand. I don’t think the clubs want it.”

And I read that and wondered to myself, “Is this guy really as stupid as that?” Why doesn’t he listen? Why isn’t he paying attention? Celtic’s stated policy – stated a dozen times, through the club’s own site, through the mainstream media and through the blogs – is for us to return to exactly that. So why doesn’t he know that? Why does he talk this rubbish?

I mean, seriously. There is simply no excuse for being as ignorant and ill-informed as that, for not knowing something so basic, not when the facts are freely available in any place that he cares to look. One club – the one at Ibrox – does not want a return to the status quo. Is he scared to point the finger where it belongs? This guy isn’t exactly getting his own chapter in Profiles In Courage but what exactly does he think will happen if he tells the truth?

I am so tired of the way our position here is constantly distorted, but I’m more tired of it being ex-Celts who do it and Walker is far and away the worst of them, with this not even being his first offence. I don’t know what part of this he isn’t understanding, only that he is now coming across like someone who has no interest in the facts.
