With Celtic’s first team squad currently enjoying a little bit of time off during the Scottish winter break, eyes of fans have already turned to our return to action in the fourth round of the Scottish Cup as we welcome Buckie Thistle to Parkhead later this month – but if reports are to be believed, we could soon see the arrival of Nicolas Kuhn to the club.

The big topic of conversation right now though is obviously the January transfer window and having returned to the club for his second spell in charge, it is fully expected that manager Brendan Rodgers will add a new signing or two to ensure we end the season on a high with another title under our belt, and the current speculation doing the rounds suggests that the Rapid Vienna winger will be his first addition of the month and given his pedigree it does not feel like a rizk bonus code kind of gamble for our point of view.

It has been claimed that Celtic have been keeping a close eye on the 24 year old German during the opening half of the 2023/24 campaign, and whilst predominantly a winger, Kuhn can also play as a straight striker, and has impressed in the Austrian Bundesliga this term, scoring three times with seven assists from his 22 appearances across all competitions.

It is now being reported that we have now tabled a firm offer for the player, and whilst that offer has not been disclosed at this stage, rumours suggest it is simply an opening gambit to test the waters, with Celtic knowing that our offer was just short of the valuation that his current club have placed on him.

Understandably it has been rejected, however, we are supposedly preparing a second offer that will be more likely to succeed, and it is believed that Rapid Vienna are already actively seeking a replacement now, which does imply it is only a matter of time before a deal is struck between both clubs.

Markus Katzer, sporting director at Rapid, spoke recently about the future of the player, and whilst he refused to confirm Celtic were one of the interested parties, he did confirm that there were a number of offers on the table at this moment in time.

“In principle, I don’t want to comment on any rumours. But I can confirm that we actually have concrete offers on the table for Nicolas Kühn, but I don’t want to name the interested clubs.”

The former Bayern Munich and Ajax talent is also attracting interest from unnamed clubs in Italy’s Serie A as well, and if speculation in previous days and weeks are to be believed, they were valuing him at around the £2 million mark.

This could be one to watch in the coming days.
