This morning, one of those interesting stories which always makes me smile; a journalist in Argentina has accused two Daily Record journalists of writing lies about Alexander Bernabei and an interview he gave to the media in his native land.

Bernabei told the interviewer that he had been to keen to get to playing first team football on a regular basis. That was the most controversial thing he said.

The Record put its own spin on it by essentially saying that he’d told them he couldn’t wait to get out of Celtic. Of course, he said nothing that could even come close to justifying that interpretation.

The least surprised people in the world here were we, the Celtic fans.

How many times has The Record done that, and in particular with a foreign language interview which they know they can twist as much as they want as long as nobody goes off and finds the original and does an accurate translation of it. Put it this way, this isn’t the first time this has happened.

They are caught doing this over and over again.

Celtic has a long-standing policy of not putting restrictions on the media, but seriously? How bad does it have to get before we start handing out bans?

We welcome the media on the basis that they are doing their covering games, writing about the matches and the issues. But what if they aren’t just doing that but pursuing agendas? Chasing headlines and hits? What if they appear driven only be agendas and consistently misrepresent people?

Do we welcome them then? Because then they aren’t impartial professionals simply doing their jobs but people determined to smear us and attack us any way that they can. Why should we allow them to do that from our front room?

This one isn’t even speculative, this is open and shut.

These people wilfully misrepresented what our player said just to generate a negative headline. If that doesn’t get you banned from Celtic Park what in God’s name will it take before someone does?
