Mark Pirie’s Obsession With Celtic’s Matt O’Riley Is Starting To Border On Stalking.

What a job The Daily Record’s “sports writer” Mark Pirie has.

To comb through quotes about Matt O’Riley and see if there are any that he can twist into a story. He did this yesterday where he wholly misrepresented comments by former Danish international striker Niklaus Bendtner and used them to attack Celtic, not caring that in fact what he did was embarrass our league instead.

Today he’s quoting Morten Weighorst, the assistant manager to the Danish coach, and a throwaway remark from him about how people at Celtic wonder if we can keep the midfielder at the club through this window.

You would think that the departure of O’Riley and a profit which is likely to be 25 times more than what we paid for the player will plunge the club into crisis and disaster.

It goes without saying that none of us wants to see O’Riley depart the club. But we’re not going to stand in his way if a life changing offer comes in and if the money is what we expect it to be. The current Scottish record is very likely to be shattered by the fee we get. The offer from Atletico Madrid may or may not resurface, but there is sufficient interest in England to convince me that we’ll have more than one club bidding for him if it comes to that.

Pirie’s obsession with O’Riley and his future is bordering on stalking now. His determination to comb through every single interview which mentions his name is ridiculous. This is just a hunt for any thread to pull on that he can find, any suggestion that the player is unhappy or that Celtic is ready to sell him, or better yet as far as Pirie is concerned, any suggestion that the player will not be able to play for Denmark until he leaves our club … that’s the big one, of course.

These people cannot wait until this guy goes. I don’t get it at all. Sure, Celtic will be weaker for his departure but if Rodgers get to spend even half the money we bring in for him the chances are that we’re going to be much stronger for the next campaign.

The thing about this story right now is that it’s nowhere at all. There’s literally nothing happening with O’Riley just now. He’s out of the Danish team, and barring an amazing change in the circumstances that’s how it’s going to be, and most people have ceased caring what justifications or rationalisations their national coach uses in explaining that decision.

In the end, if they have a bad tournament he’s the one who’ll carry the can for it, and a lot of people will use this situation, this unpopular decision, as the stick they beat him with, so on his head be it if the midfielders he’s picked don’t prove to be up to the task at hand.

Pirie should find something else to write about in the meantime. There are plenty of stories across the city if he wants something to focus on.

I’ll be doing a piece on a pretty big one of them tomorrow.

This guy is probably an out and out Sevco Hun – but surely there must be at least ONE there that is not of that ilk in which case it must be a hell hole for him to work in…

Clearly by the exposure of their spite, jealously and evil towards Celtic their editorial team must be Sevco to the core and possibly there is a gun to his head to churn out the vomit that he does after eating his crayons…

But he knows that we know that they know that ‘Rangers’ died (c.2012) and he knows that we know that they know that Celtic are Scotland’s most successful club and Real Madrid are Europe’s most successful club and Al Ahly of Egypt are The World’s most successful club…

And by fuck it hurts them at that rag, it rips their hearts to shreads…

    And d’ya know what… It’s FUCKIN BEAUTIFUL !!!
