The brief flap yesterday over Adam Idah posting a picture to Instagram should serve as a reminder to us all that we live in a frankly crazy world. The guy was flying out to Belgium with his present club. This was not a smoke-signal sent to our supporters.
People tracking private planes and stuff is funny in a sense, but there was a time when it would have seemed slightly weird. People checking out the players they like on social media is not new, but there are elements of it which have become vaguely stalkerish.
Some folk on social media yesterday were actually upset with him for the post, because they themselves made more of it than was justified.
I find it all a little bit absurd if I’m being honest.
Adam Idah will either sign or he won’t. This is not something anyone should obsess over. If you want to focus on something, try this; we didn’t secure him with a right to buy and so no such right exists. This is entirely in the hands of Norwich City.
So, we have to have had a Plan B, right? Well, are we working on it?
We shouldn’t be going on the US tour with one striker. If he gets injured, we’re in trouble with the start of the title defence hurtling towards us. Whether you agree that we have a good player right on our doorstep – in Miovski – who we could have gone for there are definitely other options out there, and we really should have been moving to secure one of them.
The Adam Idah situation looks set to drag on, and it was an easy and obvious fix as I said the other day. The club only has to contact Norwich, ask if he’s available and if not move on. All this messing about is tiresome and stupid because we either need to do this deal or get past it, but more important than the actual answer is that it’s done in a timely fashion.
And really, if I’m being honest, every club needs three strikers and we should have been planning for this last season. Oh should never have been allowed to leave until we had another option in place, and makes even less sense if we’re going to be messing about with this Idah business.
The team is now over in the US. Regardless of whether we get the Schmeichel and Bernardo deals over the line, the pure and simple fact of it is that we are right now weaker than we finished the previous campaign and I’m still perfectly convinced that we will not do the sort of business that we’d need to in order to start the new season stronger than we were.
This club likes to play Russian Roulette. It is lamentable how disorganised we continue to be. The Idah story should be wrapped up by now, either with him through the doors of Celtic Park or with us moving swiftly on to another target.
What exactly is it we’re waiting around for? The guy might play against Brugge tonight; if he does and scores a couple, where does that leave us? What happens if another club comes in and makes a bid that Norwich finds more acceptable? This is exactly what happened with John McGinn whilst we messed about trying to save a few quid.
We’re inviting trouble here with how long this is taking us. The league campaign kicks off in a little over a fortnight and we still need a left back, we still need central defensive reinforcements, we still need someone out wide and we need two strikers. That would just about get us to where the manager himself thinks that we need to be.
Right now, I’ll settle for the goal-scorer. More than any other position, that is the one that screams at you as a priority, because right now if Kyogo gets injured we’re in dire straits.
It’s fkn incredible how we’re all actually goin through the same doubts and concerns yet AGAIN. Fact is, at least some kind of encouragin signs should’ve been showin long before now and once again it’s the days rollin on in silence, with no info and very little on the strengthenin side. The sheer disregard this board show towards the feelins of our support is a fuckin disgrace.
Share Price and Executive Staff Bonuses will ALWAYS Take Priority for this Celtic PLC Board. You Can Read them like a Book.
I made the same comment about a Kyogo injury in an earlier post. I extend that to a Hatate injury when we have agreed to sell o’riley.
We need to ensure we have players in before losing players in those areas.
I don’t get why we haven’t before our preseason starts in earnest. Madness..When we have money in the bank.
No! Dont you dare settle for just that , settle for what you just wrote about because that is the bare minimum and i said that week one. If we go into the season that short handed i advocate the fans turning up early or staying late and bang on for hours at the board and bloody keep doing it at home games until those roles are filled with CL ready players. Enough is way fucking past e ough.
It’s not hard. You tell Norwich how much you’re willing to pay, they say “no, we want more” and we say “sorry, we’ll look elsewhere”. Move on to option two, although with this board there is very rarely a second option. Look at Ange, goes for one midfielder, gets a knockback and moves onto his second option, O’Riley. I’m that suspicious of this board that there’s actually a part of me that thinks the Schmeichel story is a smoke screen, and they’re going to come out later n say “we tried, but the deal couldn’t be done” and we’ll be left with the new signing and Bain.
Remember the two transfer windows when Ange first arrived, we bought players before the window even opened.
When Riley McGree rejected Celtic we immediately moved on to Matt O’Riley.
Ange talked of “succession planning” and upgrading when players left.
I wonder if anyone could ask what happened to that strategy ?
What or who was operating behind the scenes then and more importantly what changed ?
Was someone not in the building at the time but then came back or did some key member of staff leave ?
I think Rodgers wants 3. You know that from telling vatta he’d be given that chance. I don’t know if he’s got another youth in mind. I don’t know if he fancies miovski but I tipped a while back that we’d buy him and Idah this window.
I think there’s lots of variables that can cause delays. Mind how we waited all summer for jota to sign when we did actually have the buy option? We’ll never know all the stuff that causes either a delay or a collapse, and I’m sure our difference in valuation is one
Think you rate Oh! A damn sight higher than most Celtic fans do.best for all he went when he did
Why can’t we bring back Johnny Kenny from Ireland? He’s banging in the goals regularly and would be a good back up. Give him the job that Vata was apparently offered.
Like I said earlier nothing has changed with Celtic and the manager and the board dragging their heels and squabbling over every thing dime ,while they try to recruit new players,I can’t believe the manager is putting up with this saga once more when it comes to transfers, thats why he bolted the last time,so what has changed, nothing IMO,is he happy to go along with liewell and desmond, why doesn’t desmond over rule liewell and let Brendan offer decent money for the players he wants, this whole thing stinks.we should make Norwich a take it or leave it offer and then move on ,we should have had Miovski in the team by this time and maybe an other striker but we don’t seem to have moved on from Idah, Eddie Howe scenario anyone?
No ambition other than staying one step ahead of Sevco, the argument is that we don’t need to spend £30 million to win the league and spending £30 million is no guarantee you’ll do any better in the CL when teams in that competition will spend three times that on one player. I get that but for f*** sake try and have a go.
Remember lawwells quote, celtic are world class in everything we do,… except signing players that seems.
“I’m still perfectly convinced that we will not do the sort of business that we’d need to in order to start the new season stronger than we were.”
Me too. This board has previous.
THEY. DON’T. CARE. ABOUT. YOU. OR. I’s. OPINION. They really don’t. And I’m meaning all of us on here and our various other sites.
James’s earlier post regarding the net spend issue where he made the point about this being a football club after all, the men at the top don’t see it like that. WE the supporters see it as a football club, OUR football club but unfortunately they see it as a business first then a club. That is the fact of the matter.
James you also posted the other day about those at the club who are possibly gaming this out, well they are also gaming us, the fans, to see how far we can be pushed. And when the seasons tickets keep selling and the fans keep coming back then they’ll keep using us for their games also.
Which brings me to my main point. Why don’t we game back with them. Why don’t the likes of yourself, other bloggers and supporters clubs band together and publish an open letter to the club that states obligations that we want met or we withdraw support in a unified and organised manner escalating to the point we demonstrate for a change of board of something of that ilk of we don’t see the club moving in the right direction?
And that direction needs to be the money in the bank manifesting itself on the pitch as quality playing staff, better progression in Europe along with domestic domination!
@ HGB Would agree 100% with that comment.
I disagree. When you have a player that is surplus to requirements and you get a half decent bid for him, then it has got to be a done deal. I’m sure Brendan gave it his nod of approval in order to make way for someone that will fit his plans better. In my opinion we can manage without him in the short term until all the pieces are finally in place.
