This site does not like to try to read the tea-leaves, but Adam Idah, who was told that the new Norwich boss wanted a good look at him and was determined to find out what sort of player he is, has named his first side, for their first pre-season friendly, and our loanee from last season was not in the team. At all. Not even as a substitute.
What does it mean? It could mean nothing. But their local media was told that there were a handful of absentees due to the Euros and injuries, and they were all named. Idah wasn’t at the Euros and he wasn’t named as amongst the injuries. It might be that he picked up a late knock, but there’s nothing official on the wires about that, so you have to wonder.
There is talk that the club has finally gotten its act together and is out there now trying to pull together the signings that will, at the very least, bring us up to the strength we had when we were competing last season. But in point of fact, even the signings of Idah and Bernardo and Schmeichel will no longer do that considering we’re about to lose Oh.
But it’s Oh’s departure which is interesting, because you cannot imagine that we’d be letting that lad go if we didn’t have a replacement for him ready to come in and I think all of us know that the manager wants Idah and that the chances are it’ll be him.
Does today’s development make that more likely? It depends. If he’s picked up a knock then there’s your explanation. If the manager has left him out because he’s not committed or because talks are underway or if it’s in any way to do with us then there’s your answer and it’s a matter of time before you see the big lad back at Celtic Park.
This is one saga we can do with being settled. It shouldn’t drag on into the final weeks of the window. Once this deal and the one for Bernardo are done we’re genuinely looking towards the signings that make us stronger, and I think we’ll all be encouraged by that.
So this is possibly a big development today. It’s certainly going to get the internet buzzing.
I just hope this is a sign and we get it done, pronto.
Idah, from what we saw last season, looks like a ‘proper’ No 9, good at winning the ball, can hold it up when necessary and knows exactly where the goal is. He’ll both score and create goals for us and I’d expect him to kick on under Brendan so there could be one fantastic signing right there. Also, he’s a really good ‘target’ man and this should encourage great wing play which is the kind of football I for one want to see.
Beautiful, skilful, winning football, it’s The Celtic Way!
BTW, I have to admit that when I heard he was coming to us on loan I was far from impressed…….and the rest is history, our history and 2 more trophies to boot!
Aye it’s never boring being a Celtic supporter trying to fathom all things out for sure…
Adam and Miovski please or even Shankland to piss off The Sevco Huns if we canny get both !
Idah was present at the England v Ireland women’s match last night at Carrow Road. I’m hoping Caitlin Hayes had a few words with him…!!!
