One of the trending Scottish transfer stories this week is about a transfer that won’t happen.

It’s one that I doubt will happen during the window at all, but it’s getting plenty of coverage just the same. The story is the one about Lawrence Shankland and the club from Ibrox. Their manager has never confirmed interest. It’s all stuff from the papers.

Let me tell you what I think; I think Ibrox friendly hacks have been encouraged to run with this story and to blanket their outlets with it. The club across town is in a swirling crisis right now and one that threatens their whole campaign.

They kick off at Tynecastle and even a Naismith Hearts team which barely laid a glove on them last season must fancy its chances.

This is a blatant attempt to throw Hearts preparations for the game into turmoil by getting in the head of their best player, and I think it’s absolutely amazing to me that the Tynecastle club hasn’t responded forcefully to that. They have to know what’s going on and all the “plausible deniability” because there’s no comment from the Ibrox club itself does nothing to disguise that fact. This is clearly a synchronised effort, and they should not be allowing it.

The giveaway here is that much of this stuff is being pushed by Jackson, the club’s Useful Idiot of choice in their campaign to throw the blame for the stadium fiasco in the direction of James Bisgrove. You’ll notice, if you’ve read Bennett’s statement, that there’s nothing explicit in there which points the finger in his direction, just one hint that is so minor you might miss it if you didn’t know what to look for.

They outsourced those attacks to their pet hack, and he’s the one who is pushing the Shankland line, and I have no doubt that’s on their behalf.

His articles all say the same thing; Shankland has moved to the front of the queue inside the club itself. He’s saying that this is what people inside Ibrox are telling him, and he’s faithfully reporting it as fact. That he’s probably getting used, with the manager having no intention of moving for Shankland – a fact Jackson himself already publicised in his attack on Clement last week – has either not dawned on him or he just doesn’t care.

But Hearts should care, since they are the targets of this campaign. They should care because they want to get off to a good start in their first league game, and with the Ibrox club in some turmoil they have an excellent chance to set an early marker … and that effort is being very deliberately undermined by what is obviously a co-ordinated campaign.

They should be kicking up a stink over that. You can bet if someone was doing this to the Ibrox club they would be shouting it from the rooftops. This is happening right in front of them, in plain sight, in a way that is as underhanded as it is clear to all who are watching.

Any club which allows that is advertising weakness.

And Ibrox just loves taking advantage of that.

This isn’t the first time that lot have tried to unsettle Shankland before a big match. They did it in the last transfer window I am fairly sure.

As for “Hearts SHOULD be raging”. Yes, they should. They should have been raging last time. But they don’t have the balls to upset the Liebrox club. They are toothless and will lose on Saturday with another lacklustre, pitiful performance. As such, unsettling Shankland won’t make any difference anyway.

I am 100% sure of that.

Looks to me hearts don’t mind. In fact, gives them an excuse to leave him out when they lay down to them.

A very sad indictment of the Celtic board that during the transfer window The Celtic Blog is talking about a Hearts player who won’t be going to Ibrox and not of new players to our club
    Shameful

  • Malc says:

Isn’t it sad we are having to read about the huns and their dreams and aspirations while we have to read about our nightmares…

Get the fuckin’ finger out Celtic!

  • TicToc says:

It’s utterly sickening how they, people like Jackson, dredge the sewers for content and there’s no oversight nor accountability.
It’s utterly sickening that people at the top of our club, Desmond and Lawwell for starters and the rest just do what they’re told, ran to the rescue when the original huns died and happily joined the continuation lie.
But, you know what’s even more sickening? It’s that so many of our supporters just lie down and allow it all to happen.
Utterly fucking sickening, the lot of it.
And the leaders at the PLC choose to make it all even worse by doing absolutely nothing about signing the players Brendan needs to progress, that supporters are crying out for! Just what TF does it take to mobilise our support and force an end to all this capitalist manoeuvering?

And do what we have absolutely no power to get rid of the man that holds the club in his hands. The absentee landlord himself, when the fans vented our anger before he dug his heels in.He has all the power

  • Johnny Green says:

    Desperate peepul do desperate things.

Shankland may well be lapping it up, but he may also be getting sick of their false approaches and be determined to teach them a lesson next week. Let’s hope it’s the latter,

  • Clachnacuddin and the Hoops says:

Hearts doing something about it – Not a fuckin hope in hell of any dissent from from Swinecastle when it comes to tapping or intimidation from Sevco…

They are the uttimate Calvinistic bar stewards are The Scumbos –

I used to sit near the away support at Parkhead and they were the worst of the worst…

Ok there was ‘Rangers’ (as they were then) but they were from Glasgow, rivals of Celtic, and as unpalatable as they and their rancid culture are you knew what they stood for…

But the Hearts lot were bloody gruesome so they were –

And Celtic as I’ve long given ma opinion on here should sign Shankland if he’d come…

    1) – He’d score for fun and win plenty medals and sicken The Sevco Huns along the way – Especially The Sevco Huns The Record and the rest of The Scummy Scottish Football Media…

    2) – If he goes to Sevco he very much WILL be the difference between the defeat they encountered at Ross County
and the draw at Dundee and victory and that is a ten point swing alone !

  • Charlie Green says:

If Kenny Miller crossed the divide and indeed took great delight in scoring against them then I am sure Shankland would. Financial security and Champions league football what’s not to like?

    It’s a no brainer.

    • Clachnacuddin and the Hoops says:

Miller also crossed a lesser divide as a supporter Charlie – From Hibernian to ‘Rangers’ (as they were known at that time when he jumped the (East – West) dyke !

  • Cheezydee says:

I think the biggest shock in all of this is of hearts actually beat sevco classic
