The Ibrox Fans Bosun Lawal Trip-Out Is As Hilarious As It Is Ridiculous.

I always enjoy it when the Ibrox fans lose their minds over nonsense, and their latest trip out is brilliant. They are angry because Celtic is getting £2 million plus for Bosun Lawal, a story I wrote about earlier, and basically agree with the club over in spite of my disappointment over it. We’re better getting a fee, even if the money only gets us a larger tax bill, than have a player on the bench doing nothing.

Lawal has barely kicked a ball for the first team at Celtic, so naturally they cannot fathom how we can get a fee for him which is likely more than twice they got for their best central defender, and at a time when they can’t even give away some of the terrible players they have on their books, albeit players who have made plenty of appearances.

And it’s really that simple; their problem is that their players have made enough appearances to remove all doubt that watching scouts might have; these players just aren’t that good. Why would you watch Cantwell and think he was worth spending millions on? Why would clubs take a punt on 32 year old Tavernier, when he is the epitome of a football loser, a defender who can’t defend?

Lawal is young and he’s raw. Those are the very reasons that clubs are willing to pay money for him. He has potential. The duds of Ibrox have long ago flogged that, and whatever they had has been long since erased by their time there under the white hot spot light of football’s most intolerant fans.

Their fans cannot understand that, and that in itself isn’t a big deal but here’s what is; they know these guys are rubbish, they say so every week, they never tire of telling themselves and each other how bad these guys are and how none of them are up to their standards …. and perversely they expect other clubs to pay them millions for these self same games. The contradiction just goes right over their heads.

I don’t know why they don’t get this. No-one has done more to burn the reputations of those players than they have themselves; they have scorned them, abused them and booed them more times than we can count. They have shattered their confidence. The stupidity of this is manifest. They just don’t get it.

But to be honest, nothing could make the likes of Cantwell, Hagi, Dessers, Tavernier, Davies and the like good enough for other clubs to buy, especially when so many of them are on big wages. Their previous clubs were lucky enough to punt these guys when Ibrox was desperate and determined to keep the pace with us … now that they’ve given up that mad fantasy they want them off the wage bill.

Yet here we are, in a situation where our B team players and backups can go for millions whilst they struggle to attract bids for their dreck.

So yeah, they are pretty pissed off about it. And I find it hilarious. Now, if only we were willing to spend some of the money we bring in for these deals …

Why can we negotiate terrific deals for players that are transferred out of the club and yet we appear unable/unwilling to apply the same effort with transfers to the club?
The money we receive appears to suggest we have skilled negotiators who can extract maximum value for players, yet every signing we make seems to take forever, maybe part of the issue is that we seem hell bent on paying the absolute lowest fee possible(admiral in theory) but a hindrance in real life when the selling club is unwilling to budge either. Sometimes the club has to accept we need to pay the going rate for the players the manager wants.
Perhaps Brendan should get on the phone to Chelsea, they have 46 senior players on the books at the last count. Surely some quality amongst the squad, players we could get in on loan( yes I’m now resigned to the fact the club not spend money)
