The desperate Record had a Celtic “broken badge” story snatched from under them last night.

You’ve got to hand it to The Daily Record—when it comes to scraping the bottom of the barrel, they know how to give it a good go.

Last night, after Celtic’s C-team friendly against Sligo, they actually had the gall to claim that Luis Palma’s hat-trick “saved Celtic from embarrassment.”

Embarrassment? In a meaningless kickabout with a handful of first-team players and a squad mostly made up of the kids?

We were supposedly “saved from embarrassment” because we were 2-1 down with two minutes to go. In a match that meant absolutely nothing to anyone. I can think of a few words I would have used, but “embarrassment” wouldn’t be one of them.

The only embarrassment here is The Record and its writers.

The people who work there and produce this daily drivel should be the ones embarrassed. And there’s no saving them from that—not even Palma’s magical feet.

They couldn’t wait to drag out the broken badge nonsense. Couldn’t wait to condemn Celtic players like Nawrocki, Scales, McGowan, Yang, and Palma for being part of a team that was losing to a League of Ireland side.

Well, tough luck. We didn’t lose.

How tragic for them that their ready-made broken badge story was snatched away by the very player they were sharpening their pencils to stab at. Palma, the guy I said just yesterday a decision had likely been made on already, but who I also pointed out has skill and talent, even if he doesn’t quite fit Brendan Rodgers’ style. And he showed that skill with three goals.

What stood out wasn’t just the goals themselves but how he stayed alert. He got the equaliser late on and then followed it up with the winner moments later. He was the sharpest player on the pitch, focused and determined. That’s to his credit.

It wasn’t a vintage game for Scott Bain, though.

He was at fault for both goals, and if not for him, the scoreline could’ve been different. Sure, he had a couple of decent saves, but there’s a reason he’s not our regular between the sticks. The first goal was a shocker, and he should have kept the second out as well.

Among the kids, McCardle stood out. He looked strong, aggressive, and forward-thinking. He even got an assist, and I thought he had a good game overall.

But in truth, there was nothing to learn from that match. It wasn’t even about giving fringe players a chance. It was a kickabout. A run-out that meant very little to anyone. Sure, I wasn’t the only one watching—we’re all missing our Celtic fix already—but after Sunday’s comeback, we’re all just looking forward to Aberdeen.

Of course, The Record didn’t see it as a meaningless game.

They saw an opportunity.

They had their pencils sharpened, their broken badge graphics at the ready, and the word “embarrassment” teed up, just waiting to be screamed from the headlines. Celtic got the result in the end, but that didn’t stop them from using it.

That newspaper is a bad joke—and one that’s been running far too long.

The Daily Record. If you’re into your arts and crafts it’s really handy stuff for creating papier mâché.
Beyond that, not a lot really, unless you’re caught short for toilet paper.

I was on a rough Cal-Mac Ferry to one of The Western Islands a few years back and a girl of about fifteen got caught out being seasick and spewed everywhere in The Bar area…

While she obviously couldn’t help it – It was disgusting looking and stank really badly to the high heavens so her Friend / Sister around the same age used her Daily Record to hide her mess and saturate it up…

      My thoughts ? –

      That poor bloody Seasick !!!!

  • FSTB says:

Maybe the journalist (stop laughing at the back) in Record does a bit of moonlighting for the Ibrox noise after their unhinged piece about pro Celtic bias at the BBC

  • Clachnacuddin and the Hoops says:

And still they’ll be at least two Celtic ‘supporters’ ? ? that I personally know around these shores that’ll buy it…

And contribute to keeping The Scummy Bastards alive a tiny bit longer –

Dearie Dearie Fuckin me is all I can sigh thinking about it !

Meaningless is not a word I would use to describe any Celtic fixture. It certainly was not meaningless to all of the Sligo supporters and players nor to the Celtic family. Why use your position to promote the bile that is printed in a meaningless paper that has nothing but tripe to say about us. Hail Hail

I have a great idea for the smsm most pundits and experts and the “the rangers” supporters health …… well to be fair they’re all “the rangers” supporters..my idea is simple blow the full-time whistle if CELTIC are behind …DON’T wait for the end of the game

Wondering why this wouldn’t have been an opportunity to play Sinisalo in goals.

Surely if the plan (I assume as have others) behind his signing is for him to become the number 1 when Kasper probably leaves at the end of the season this is the sort of game to give him a run out.

He makes the bench for the first team over Bain so why play someone who is only at the club to help with the homegrown quota.

He is on international duty with Finland

      • Jay says:

Ah thanks Joe, I did have a look for there squad lists but not a huge amount was easy to find.
That puts my mind at ease than the thought of Bain being selected over him.

” Another late winner , they b*stards dae it every time ”

Ha Ha Harold ! – Aye you can just see it on Wallow Wallow exactly as you said !

I need to check out their ‘Today’s games’ thread –

      Well actually yesterday’s now !

Being a tax fraud and not paying up to your beloved queen that they said they were so loyal to is pretty embarrassing too and having not paid up, still managed to get liquidated.
That paper shows an overwhelming level of absolute intelligence amongst it’s writers so much so the idiots that buy it would be better simply looking at the pictures. Pictures of a club in a coffin being lowered, as if they could’ve been even more, into the ground. Never to be seen again.
It’s ‘Madness’ and you’re the ‘Embarrassment’

  • Brattbakk says:

A wee point of order James, Scales wasn’t involved. He was busy scoring for Ireland on international duty.
The game itself was a good idea, Bain was pish but that’s the game to do that in, it would’ve been worthwhile for a lot of them and a couple of youngsters did pretty well. I would’ve liked to have seen Cummings though, dunno where he was.
