Well, wasn’t that some kind of wonderful?

Under Ange Postecoglou, I thought we played some of the best football I’d ever seen from a Celtic side. Tonight was better. Yes, we’ve had moments under Rodgers that eclipsed anything Ange’s team could do on the pitch, but tonight was something else.

It was remarkable, unexpected, and brilliant in every respect. I don’t think I’ve ever seen us play better, regardless of who the manager was or what team we had on the field.

Tonight, we didn’t just beat the second-best team in the country; we dismantled them.

Let no one fool you in the aftermath into thinking that this was some tired, overhyped Aberdeen side. They were unbeaten this season until now, and we handed them their first defeat in a way that was comprehensive and emphatic.

This wasn’t a narrow win in a league game; it was a six-goal thrashing in a cup semi-final. No one should be talking about anything other than how superb we were right across the board.

There wasn’t a weak link in the team. Not a single player put a foot wrong. Some stood out more than others, of course—Kyogo was excellent, and Arne Engels answered a lot of the petty questions that a handful of doubters have been asking. But the wide men were on another level, head and shoulders above anything Aberdeen or any other club in this country could offer.

Nicolas Kuhn turned in a stellar display, adding a couple of assists and a goal. And then there’s Maeda. Words fail me when it comes to describing his impact. We’re all fortunate to be watching this guy play for Celtic, and one day we’ll be telling future generations about his relentless running, his harassment of defenders, his ability to create and score goals, and his incredible work ethic. Watching him tear into teams is a privilege.

It’s exhilarating to watch this whole side right now. Some of these players are improving week by week, and the whole squad is developing as a unit. We still don’t know how good this team can become because it hasn’t yet reached its peak—but every sign is positive. It’s hard to imagine anyone stopping us here at home.

Some might try to downplay this victory by saying that Aberdeen are overrated, or that they are simply tired from midweek. I had anticipated that they would start getting leggy at around the hour mark. We were five goals to the good by then.

I’m not having any of this nonsense. Anyone pushing that line is simply refusing to acknowledge just how far ahead we are. This is a special Celtic team, with special talents and a special manager. I won’t have anyone taking credit away from what this side is doing right now.

We’re in another final.

Rodgers is returning to a stadium where he boasts a 100 percent win record.

Meanwhile, Ibrox fans are trotting out the usual rubbish about how Aberdeen supposedly don’t try against Celtic. If that’s true, how did they come back from 2-0 down at Celtic Park?

If there were ever a game for Aberdeen to roll over, it would have been that one, not a semi-final where silverware was on the line.

Some of their fans find it hard to admit just how far we are in front of them. They kid themselves with fantasies about how a new manager or a couple of signings will bridge the gap. We’re miles ahead. It’s almost embarrassing that anyone still tries to argue otherwise.

So we’ll face the Ibrox club in the final if they get past Motherwell tomorrow.

If they do make it, I cannot imagine they will look forward to it with any enthusiasm after seeing our performance tonight. Their best move might be to fold tomorrow, step aside, and try to salvage what they can from their season by focusing on the Scottish Cup.

Sending Clement back to Belgium after demolishing them the way we just did Aberdeen is now a tantalising possibility and that would be a fitting end to his Scottish adventure. I’d savour the build-up to that final. I’d mark the date on my calendar and count down the minutes.

Tonight, there are no negatives.

There’s nothing to complain about, nothing I wish we’d done better.

This was as close to perfect as I’ve seen from this Celtic team—or from any Celtic team, for that matter. And the best part? We’re only going to get better. That thought alone should terrify anyone trying to keep up with us.

    What a performance from Celtic,
I have been critical of Hatate but tonight was his best performance in a Celtic jersey he was on it for 90 mins….Great game Reo

A bit of a train-spotter point. We often talk about the wide pitch at Hampden and the difference it makes. Well (according to Google) it’s only 3 feet wider than Celtic Park and 2 feet wider than Ibrox. It is 3 yards wider than Pittodrie so maybe we need to be mindful of the better awareness of space “if” we face Sevco, and if Google is to be believed, Fir Park is pretty much the same width as Ibrox.
So a long winded way to say they can’t blame the pitch! I saw a win for us tonight – I didn’t see a demolition! HH

Just realised I worded that all wrong! I saw us winning tonight but I didn’t think that it would be a demolition. HH

Great performance and absolutely took them apart. The whole team played well, tho for me Khun and Maeda were outstandin. BR and the team got their tactics spot on, nullified them all over the park and took their wingers and mid right out the game. They were ruthless and it was a doin. Brilliant.

I think there’ll be a growing number of gers fans will be hoping that Mwell beat them today. Firstly because the humiliation of a pumping to us in the final would be too humiliating to take, and secondly because it may hasten the departure of the Belgian Waffler.

Maeda terrified the Aberdeen full back all night.
Again Aberdeen were over physical and deserved the five yellow cards.Puzzled about McGregors booking?
I think we saw Celtics strongest starting eleven today although I feel a bit sorry for Scales.

To be fair I expected to see a lot of references to Celtic’s freshness v Aberdeen’s tiredness etc. but I was pleasantly surprised to see it was hardly mentioned at all.
Just about everything I’ve read has been about the level of Celtic’s performance.
