Yesterday, one of the deluded and deranged Ibrox fan sites we talk about frequently made a peculiar demand of their club. They suggested their team should make a “statement of intent” in January regarding Lennon Miller. We’ve discussed Lennon Miller at length and know that any move for him would involve a significant outlay.
So, what kind of “statement of intent” are these fans expecting? Is it remotely feasible for their club to attempt this? The obvious answer is no. If their club attempted such a move, the only intent they’d be demonstrating is their willingness to flirt with financial ruin.
Which part of making a £17 million loss last season and facing even higher losses this year do these people struggle to comprehend?
When pundits like Keith Jackson point out that they’d be blown away in an auction for Miller, it’s not an effort to “stick the knife in.” It’s simply a reflection of the glaring mathematics of their situation. They cannot keep spending money they don’t have.
The fan site in question seems to think potential boardroom changes might alter their financial picture. But who exactly do they think is joining the Ibrox board? Is Elon Musk about to swoop in with an open chequebook? Appointing a chairman or chief executive isn’t going to magically improve their cash flow. Even if someone wealthy did join, the days of clubs recklessly spending beyond their means are long gone. Financial regulations have seen to that.
If the Ibrox club got involved in an auction for Miller, it would only embarrass itself. The moment the bidding reached serious levels, they’d have to back out, humiliated and defeated—particularly if Celtic were the ones to secure the player.
So, what kind of statement are they actually hoping to make? That they’re prepared to go toe-to-toe with Celtic in the transfer market? Their own board has ruled that out, acknowledging the futility of such an approach. Competing with Celtic financially is a non-starter.
This is the same fan site that recently floated the absurd notion of Morgan Whittaker as a viable signing target for January. Their credibility is already in question. Right after publishing their “statement of intent” article, they followed up with a piece about how Václav ?erný’s performances for his national team likely priced them out of a permanent move for him. The cognitive dissonance here is staggering.
These people are so entrenched in their delusion that no amount of evidence seems to penetrate.
You know what, though? I hope they try. I hope their club does make this “statement of intent.” Because the only thing they’ll prove is how far behind Celtic they are in every conceivable way.
If we went head-to-head with them for a player like Miller, there’d only be one winner. Celtic can pay more, offer more, and deliver a better platform. It’s that simple. This isn’t about determination or “willpower”; it’s about resources, and Celtic have them while they do not.
I can understand why this is hard for their fans to grasp or accept. But clinging to hope like this only sets them up for embarrassment. Reality is knocking at their door—they just refuse to answer it.
I wish only the best for every and all young Scottish players. For Lennon Miller that may be Celtic or another team elsewhere – I would like that club to Celtic. I cannot see any circumstance where the team for him is Sevco.
Jeez – They do like their STATEMENTS for sure…
What time o’clock was it yesterday / last night then –
Wonder what fan site it was…
Deluded, Demented, Demonised Dicks – Or something like that !
How are they going to pay for him- a tenner down and a pound a week?
FFS they haven’t even paid for Barron yet.
The hun hoardes are still deluding themselves that they are the ‘Establishment’ Club and that every potential talented kid in Scotland is dying to play for them, whether they are affordable or not. They see a population full of wee bluenose staunchers who are just desperate to play for their forefathers adopted team, a never ending queue of bluenose foetus’s being moulded to create a dedicated army of talent that is available for their sole use. 🙂
A bit melodramatic I know, but….WTF….they started it.
You previously talked about the 7 stages James, obviously these klowns are still stuck at denial , well there’s a hellava long road ahead, uphill all the way hopefully to acceptance, I will personally enjoy the bears rattling their cages again
when their delusional dreams are shattered once more AGAIN .
