The Ibrox loving media is right: Mike Tyson really is “one of their own.”

You really have to hand it to the Scottish media—they don’t do irony, and they certainly don’t do self-reflection. Just the other week, they were hyping up the Ibrox club, raving about how “amazing” it would have been if Donald Trump had taken them over. Donald Trump. The mere idea was so preposterous I burst out laughing when I read it.

Now, this week, they’re fixated on the perceived allegiances of Mike Tyson. They’re talking about how he supposedly doesn’t hold a grudge against the club because of some event that didn’t happen in the year 2000—or was it 2012? Who knows? The article throws around dates, numbers, and vague timelines, and by the end, I couldn’t make head nor tail of it.

It’s a typical Daily Record piece: low on quality, bereft of facts, and utterly nonsensical. But one thing comes through loud and clear—they’re overjoyed to claim the so-called “baddest man on the planet” as one of their own. And I say, great. After all, fresh from fawning over Trump, they’re now drooling over another convicted sex offender—one who actually served time for rape, no less—along with his reputation as a notorious thug and, let’s not forget, a bankrupt.

When they say Tyson’s “one of their own,” you better believe it.

Honestly. Just think about this for a moment. When you’re so desperate for validation, so desperate for any connection to the wider world, what do you do? When you’re a struggling Scottish football club with no money in the bank, while your rivals are walking all over you, I suppose you’ll take whatever crumbs you can get. But this? This is truly something else.

There’s zero self-awareness here. None. It’s as if these people crave attention from the worst kinds of individuals. Like Trump, they seem to respect certain things—brashness, “hard men,” and those who flaunt their notoriety. They get all excited and start drooling over these figures as if proximity to them somehow elevates their status. It’s pathetic.

Most football clubs would distance themselves from someone like Tyson. Most would be ashamed to associate with him. But not them. It’s as if this kind of thing is embedded in their DNA. This is a club that’s had tax cheats, conmen, and all manner of shady characters on its board over the years. So maybe it’s no surprise they’re happy to claim a convicted rapist as a kindred spirit. And let’s not overlook the financial mismanagement—Tyson’s legendary inability to hold onto his millions seems almost poetic in this context.

If it weren’t so tragic, it would be hilarious. This is supposed to be Scotland’s second-biggest football club, and yet here they are, clinging desperately to the coattails of controversial figures just to seem relevant. It’s dire stuff. Absolutely dire. And to top it off, we have a media that not only tolerates this nonsense but actively promotes it.

It’s truly something to behold.

I love iron Mike, he was one of my heroes growing up. Boxing is the greatest sport in the world, and he was a fantastic fighter. He certainly once was the baddest man on the planet. I watched him and Jake Paul’s fight this morning, come on man Mikes 58 now. A prime iron Mike and that fight would not have lasted a round that’s for sure.

Tyson was bitch slapped all over the ring by Evander Holyfield.

Baddest man on the planet? Aye right.

A prime Tyson from 87-90 was a force of nature, these people beat him when he had his problems. He had the power to knock an elephant out. He was a ko machine, all the people who love boxing want to see a knockout.

      • TonyB says:

He was a flat track bully who came up short the first time he faced a real fighter, having to resort to ear biting because he couldn’t beat his man.

Up till he faced Holyfield he was up against a bunch of mostly palookas.

Tyson and the huns share a lot of similarities.

No man, iron Mike the man. He still the youngest heavyweight champion of all time. Mike be kicking back 20 million richer enjoying a wee joint. I love Mike, he funny as anything, love his style. He be saying, hey they are paying me 20 large, and I’m not fighting usyk or Dubois lol. Mikes the man. One of the best to ever do it. A living legend.

He was beating people like Frank Bruno before he came up against Holyfield when he, Tyson, was 30 and in his prime.

Indeed during his earlier career when he was supposedly invincible, Buster Douglas beat him.

    I mean Buster Douglas FFS!

Anyway, it would be a dull world if we all agreed on everything, but I’ve always been of the view that Tyson was over rated.

I’m not a boxing fan, but reading the comments here convinced me that thegoodghuy is more both than human.
