Absolutely incredible comments again today from the man in the Ibrox dugout. Incredible. He wants people to forget his record against Celtic and focus only on his team. Well, his team’s record is the same as his record—terrible. And how are people supposed to ignore that? It’s all anyone is going to be talking about. He is kidding himself if he thinks this is going to fly. Their fans are not exactly the Brains of Britain, but they are smarter than this.
Once again, it’s a classic example of loser talk.
And how many times has he done this now? How many times has he indulged in this kind of chatter? His own record is not important—it’s about the team. His record shouldn’t count because … of what? What’s his rationale for this? In a two-team league, what else matters except the head-to-head record?
This is for silverware. In a sense, all these games are for something important. And last year, he lost a cup final to Brendan Rodgers. Maybe it’s no big deal to him to lose to Brendan Rodgers, but he’s at a club where the fans have a slightly different take on that. Five games: four losses, one draw. He was lucky to even get the draw. No wins.
And he knows—he has to know—that failing to win the coming game will be a disaster for him, his club, his players, and everyone connected to it. He must realise this. And I think he does. This is a crisis-making moment.
But again, it’s the media I marvel at.
They sat there today, listened to that nonsense, and they know that’s what it is. They know it makes no sense, and they know the Ibrox fans will never accept it. He’s paid to win big games. That’s what he gets his salary for—not for beating St Johnstone, Motherwell, and the like (although, to be fair, he’s not very good at that either). But these matches? Above all else, he’s paid to win them. And if he goes six without a win, their fans are entitled to ask if he ever will.
It’s just so brazen, isn’t it? Can you imagine Brendan Rodgers, in the same circumstances, sitting there and arguing that his record doesn’t matter in these games? That it doesn’t matter he’s not won in five? He’d be laughed out of the room—and that’s if he was lucky.
What amazes me is what the media does get het up over with this guy. When he told the truth about their club being financially outgunned by Spurs and Celtic, he had to roll it back and grovel an apology. The idea that we might have more money than them, and a structural advantage, was too much for some people in the media and their support to bear.
So, when he tells an inconvenient truth, he gets pilloried for it and forced to his knees “clarifying” his remarks. But when he sits there talking absolute garbage like this, it doesn’t even raise an eyebrow.
That’s not a double standard—that’s no standard. It’s a media that’s not up to snuff.
Here’s what he said when asked another question today: “How do I feel about winning trophies? 200 per cent. About winning games? 200 per cent. That’s what I want against every opponent, to do everything to win games and to do that together with the squad.”
That’s just gibberish, isn’t it?
He’s “200 per cent” committed to winning games and trophies. Show me a manager anywhere in football who’s 50/50 about those things! “Oh, I only want to win some games. Oh, I’m only 10 per cent committed to the title.” He’s the only manager in the country who gets away with rambling, shambling, car crash press conferences like this every other week.
But if we do our job on Sunday, he’ll soon be taking his show on the road. Look out, second tier of England or some far-flung foreign shore: Philippe Clement, coming to a comedy club near you.
Be interestin tae hear his comments if he loses. Can take absolutely nothin for granted and we looked lethargic against Hibs and Zagreb. Hopefully we get an improvement on that. Clemmont, he’ll be instructin his players tae go for the usual, all out high press tactic from the off, tae try for an early goal and unstable us right away. We’ll need tae expect and deal with that. And watch for beaton lettin raskin away wi murder in that midfield. Tho sayin that, with the pace we have up front, every possibility we could catch them out and hurt them.
He hasn’t won a full competition with Sevco yet…
The League Cup Final last year was really Beale most of the way (Though not quite 200%) !
So Losing a League he was leading and then losing a Scottish Cup Final a week later…
That’s Zero Outta Two –
Does that equate to – 200% in losses for Fillipe Fillop !
