As regular readers will be aware, we keep a very close eye on what’s going on across the city, and what was happening there today, of course, was their game against Ross County.
Earlier, we talked about how badly their team played and the manager’s comments about it being the kind of football their fans supposedly wanted to see.
When he was asked about the two upcoming games—Spurs on Thursday and Celtic in the cup final on Sunday—he said something truly extraordinary.
What made it extraordinary was that it was the literal truth.
Yes, he’s already searching for excuses. Absolutely, he is. He’s effectively saying, “Don’t judge me on these two massive matches,” even though these are exactly the types of games most football managers expect to be judged on. His reasoning? These two teams are vastly richer, better funded, and better resourced than his.
A lot of Celtic sites are laughing at this, and I’m not immune to finding it amusing.
But what tickles me most is that, for once, all he’s done is talk straight.
It’s a dose of reality, and over on the Ibrox fan forums, it’s gone down like a dose of the runs.
They are absolutely furious at what they perceive to be a message of surrender.
They don’t accept that they’re outgunned by us. They don’t accept that their club cannot keep up with us in terms of spending or purchasing power.
That’s the last thing they want to hear. And yes, they know he’s looking for excuses, but it’s the harsh truth they find hardest to swallow. They see his comments as a sign of complete capitulation—not just for these games, but an acceptance of second-best in general.
Not just for the short term, but for as long as our advantage exists.
Ever so slowly, they’re being forced to come to terms with reality.
People within their own club have been candid about it. Their own board of directors has made this clear. Tom English even said that an Ibrox director explicitly told him the days of competing with Celtic in the transfer market are over. They cannot do it, and they will not do it.
Any boss at Ibrox must confront this reality on day one of the job.
Clement, it seems, is somewhat shocked by this, which suggests it wasn’t the reality he was sold when he took the role.
But it is reality—not just for him, but for every manager who takes over there.
Every single one will be sat down and told there is no giant transfer fund to close the gap.
The mandate will be to do more with less.
Every one of them will have that as an alibi and will deploy it at some point to excuse poor performances or ineptitude.
This, of course, is the problem their fans with it. Their deepest fear is that their club belongs locked into an acceptance of mediocrity.
They are terrified that a deep-seated understanding is setting in across their club of what their limitations are.
That’s why they’re so angry tonight—not just because of the upcoming games against Spurs and us, but because this is the future.
A club where these limitations are acknowledged is a club where they are accepted.
And they would rather neither happen, even when the truth is staring them right in the face.
A bit of doublespeak here…
The Fuckin T-R-U-T-H actually hurts –
Well at L-I-E-B-R-O-X anyway…
And even better at The Pathological Liars at The Scummy’s (Scottish Football Media) !!!
It’s utterly Fuckin BEAUTIFUL and I’m no Lying – That’s The Truth now !
They’re shiiiitttte and they know they are, so spurs n us will skelp them so hard .
Their supporters will be shittin it behind their couches and will be phoning in sickies till the 2nd week in January, half the cnuts will be jailed over Xmas n new year for beating up their wives/sisters .
Is it double the sentence if their wife/sister is the same person ??
Let’s focus on our future. Next match is Zagreb – early kickoff so let’s go there, perform and hopefully get a result that makes others sit up and take notice. It will be a tough match but one that we are capable of winning.
Sevco fans eventually realise the state their klubs in , they cannot compete with Celtic.
The only cash advantage they have over the other teams in the SPL is their attendance number’s, and that will dwindle as more and more of the klanbase walk away as they realise they are merely a mediocre klub,
SIMPLY SECOND BEST .
They’re not even that these days – (Second Best) !
Clement also said Spurs are one of the top sides in the world! Does he realise their last league title was in 1962 and the Europa or Conference League is the highest level they can usually reach.
