The Ibrox-Elon Musk “connection” is the darkness reaching out for the darkness.

Earlier today, I talked about the transfer window. I said that if you want to know what the Ibrox club intends to do regarding its transfer policy, you should watch this window very carefully. That will provide you with the answers. The Nico Katic story looks as if it’s growing legs, for starters, and as I said, it’s a classic case of a quick-fix solution. It’s also an example of that club harkening back to the old days.

That club has two bizarre obsessions. The first is an obsession with the past, which it just can’t seem to shake. It’s always reaching back into history for inspiration or hope. So, it’s no surprise they’re revisiting the idea of signing former players—guys who were let go because they were contributing nothing, doing nothing, yet are suddenly about to be brought back.

Their other weird obsession is the belief that every problem can be solved by a sugar daddy. This has provoked a lot of strange discussions about who the potential saviours might be. For the umpteenth time in recent weeks, one name seems to be at the forefront of many minds—believe it or not, Elon Musk.

This is about as fanciful and ridiculous a story as you could hope to find, but it keeps getting oxygen. Today, even Ally McCoist said he’d take Musk as chairman for a year.

I have to marvel at the mentality of these people—the way they can make the most preposterous rubbish sound reasonable, sensible, even realistic. There’s nothing realistic about this at all. It’s sheer moon-howling.

Any organisation not already associated with Musk would be bonkers to want to be. But when you break it down and think about it, that provides you with some insight. Why do some of them believe this is even remotely possible?

I’m not joking—it’s worth asking.

We know it’s crazy, but why do they believe it? What’s their pitch? What reason do they have for thinking Musk would be interested in them? I’ll tell you: it goes far beyond any football reason. And that’s something you should think about when you hear these stories. Consider what it says about the mentality of their support—not just the guys in the stands, but their ex-players and officials too.

Musk isn’t just on the political right—he’s on the far right. He’s on the extreme flank of it. I can’t help but think that this sort of story wouldn’t have come up if Musk were on the far left. It appeals to their fans because they see Musk as being ideologically aligned with their club, its ethos, and its outlook.

Sure, they may not like everything he says and does, but in broad strokes, they believe it’s possible because of that ideological alignment.

Think about what that means.

Right now, Musk is involved in countless controversies, but the one most relevant here is his praise for the far-right German political party, AfD. There’s probably no more shocking a country in which to push those kinds of reactionary ideas than Germany, yet there he is doing exactly that. Having already spouted crazy ideas and supported far right politicians – of whom Trump is only one – in his own country, he now seeks to interfere in European politics.

The same people pushing this Musk madness weren’t that long ago pushing the idea of Donald Trump. Is it a coincidence Trump is also an extreme far-right figure? Of course not. Again, those peddling these fantasies believe there’s some ideological convergence between these figures and their institution, which makes them attractive prospects.

I remember a story years ago in The News of the World suggesting that a Russian oligarch and gangster was eyeing up buying the club from David Murray. What I remember most about that story was the writer’s contention that the Ibrox fans wouldn’t care where the money came from, so long as they saw signings.

The simple fact is, nothing has changed. The only difference is that the Rangers referred to back then no longer exists. The current Ibrox club is more desperate for cash than Murray’s ever was. In that desperation, I genuinely think they’d take anyone’s money, regardless of the source, morality, or risk. That’s the truly revealing thing about all these people touting these crazies as saviours.

I used to think the Ibrox club had a profound identity crisis. But the real crisis is that they do have an identity—one that’s completely alien to most normal people. The more you see of them, the clearer that becomes.

This is a sterling example of that. The people around the club are talking about this sort of thing as if it’s realistic. Worse, they’re discussing it in an agreeable way, without recoiling from the idea in utter horror.

Remember what I said: desperate people do desperate things. And there are no more desperate Peepul than these.

He’d shut the place down, flatten it for a Tesla car sales place. The only way to make money out of that sh!thole.

I didn’t know that McCoist had been quoted as welcoming to Ibrox an narcissistic extreme right billionaire with ambitions of destroying democratic accountability throughout the Western World.
I do wonder how desperate these people at Ibrox have become, As a guy born during WW Two and growing up in the 50’s and 60’s, when everybody was determined that extreme right wing fascism would never be allowed to rear it’s nasty head above the parapet ever again. I’m afraid it’s not only rearing it’s head it’s now seems to be growing like giant weeds throughout Europe and the US.
I know that Rangers FC for many, many years had a shameful sectarian signing policy, but I’ve got to say I knew lots of Rangers supporters over the years within the Trade Union and Labour Movement, who would have been very worried to see the lurch to extreme right wing views by a sizeable group of supporters at Ibrox these days. For McCoist to voice support for Musk as chairman is shameful. It shows he’s not the wee cheeky chappie that he tries to portray himself as.

Although tbh, however highly unlikely, these days ah wouldn’t write somethin like that off completely. Tho it gives a clear indication how desperate they are. Would probably surprise us, how many clubs would sell any morals they had for money and that institution are one of them. Only way imo ah think this would happen, would be through the influence of trump himself, who claimed interest ( however shallow) a few seasons ago and he’s a good friend of musk. Seems just too far fetched and more like extreme straw clutchin. Surprised ahm actually entertainin it.

I wish people would stop referring to The Tribute Act as an ‘Institution’. They are not.
They are a Football Club and not a very good one.
This ‘Institution’ nonsense just feeds into their sense of Superiority and Entitlement.
They are the bastard offspring of a Liquidated Football Club. They are a laughable parody of OldCo.
The sooner they follow the path of OldCo to the financial graveyard the better for Scottish Football and
all the better for Scotland in general.

  • Kevcelt59 says:

@ sfa. Whether it’s a football club, it’s an organisation, which still constitutes an institution. Sorry tae put a damper on yer nit-pickin mate. Just sayin.

    • SFATHENADIROFCHIFTINESS says:

      @ Kevcelt59.
Please read the Dictionary definition of ‘Institution’. (Oxford or Cambridge)
The key words are Large & Important.
The Tribute Act in UK terms are neither.
Institutions are Organisations that are relevant to a Society fulfilling key roles in its structure.
Universities, Health Service, BMA, Relgious Orders, even Parliament and the Monarchy,
NewCo are a third rate Scottish Fooball Club as are Patrick thistle, Morton and others. They are certainly not Institutions.

      • Clachnacuddin and the Hoops says:

I’m in Derry on holiday quite a bit SFATHENADIROFCHIFTINESS…

There is an Irish League team on the outskirts of The Waterside called ‘Institute’

A few fine well oiled fellas on The West Bank of Derry informed me that they actually play in an area called Drumahoe but it sounded to ‘feinian-ey’ a name so they thought Institute would be better aligned to their beloved Orange ‘institution’

How actually fuckin sad is that then…

How the fuck do they cope about living in towns with Gaelic names like Ballymena, Ballymony, Ballyclare etc etc…

There again they seem to like the tune ‘The Fields of Athenry’ at Liebrox and ‘To return to my old hometown on The Foyle’ as well so who knows what the fuck goes through their minds !

      • Kevcelt59 says:

@ sfa. An ‘institution’ is mainly used in the context or examples you’ve used. Tho it can also be used more lightly, tae describe an organized establishment. Sorry if ah didnae get it bang on. And ffs lighten up, ye sound fuckin miserable.

    • Clachnacuddin and the Hoops says:

If they are an institution then they’re not a very old one Kevcelt59…

As of today they are only 12 years and 164 days old –

I for one will always remind them as long as I’m alive and able to !!!

  • Gerry says:

Instead of him expressing a desire to purchase Sevco, the murmurings are ( from his father,) that he has a “desire” to buy Liverpool FC. The basis for this is EM’s grandmother was from Liverpool and they knew The Beatles lol.

I’m sure the Liverpool fans will be very excited at this news !
