The Village Idiot’s latest dig at Celtic is so dumb it could have passed for an April Fool.

Yesterday was April the first, and there were plenty of little April Fool’s jokes scattered across the internet and Celtic cyberspace. Some were good, some bad, and some utterly indifferent. But I appreciate all the effort that went into them, regardless of whether I personally found them amusing or not.

The problem, though, is that we operate in a bizarre media environment where it’s not always easy to distinguish between something written in jest and something intended in all deadly seriousness.

This is even harder when you’re dealing with the literal class clown. The Village Idiot himself. And so, when Kris Boyd suggested yesterday that the Ibrox club should try to sign Greg Taylor, I genuinely didn’t know whether he was making an April Fool’s joke or if he was actually being serious. Because, let’s be honest, this is exactly the kind of nonsense he regularly spouts anyway.

As it turns out, he was serious—at least, I think he was. It’s hard to tell, but let’s assume for a moment that he meant it. The idea is as stupid as any I’ve ever heard, and as unlikely as any you’ll ever find.

And I’m not sure whether this is Boyd’s own idiotic interpretation or something that originated from an Ibrox fan site, but the suggestion that Taylor might be angry at Celtic and Celtic fans because we’ve never accepted him—because he grew up as an Ibrox fan—is news to me in so many ways.

First off, I didn’t even know Taylor was an ex-Ibrox fan. And the reason I didn’t know is that I didn’t care. That sort of thing doesn’t bother me in the slightest, and I don’t know a single other Celtic fan who gives a toss about it either.

Some of the best servants this club has ever had were once supporters of the Ibrox club, and that’s never been an issue. So the idea that we somehow hold it against Taylor and never truly accepted him because of it is just another fantasy that exists in their tiny, deranged brains.

Taylor is free to go wherever he wants when he eventually leaves Celtic, but I will absolutely howl with laughter if he ends up at Ibrox.

Not that I think he will—he’ll have far better offers than that, and he’ll certainly have more sense. But is Boyd really suggesting that his old club sign a player that Celtic are effectively moving on from? Is that their big solution? Is that their grand strategy for closing the gap?

That’ll improve them, will it? That’ll push them forward in leaps and bounds? And if Taylor walks into that team and starts every week ahead of the Brazilian Chelsea target, well, that’ll be even funnier.

Does Boyd even realise what he’s saying?

We really are surrounded by stupidity in this country. Our fan base exists in an ocean of denialism, retreating from reality, wallowing in hatred and mad fantasy.

And here we have a guy so renowned for talking utter nonsense that it’s all people expect from him. To the point where, even when he might be joking, we have to take him seriously because it’s so in line with the nonsense he regularly comes out with.

And I find it extraordinary that he continues to draw a salary in a mainstream media role when he is, in fact, the biggest joke in the game.

What does he actually bring to the table? What insight does he offer? What value does he add to any discussion beyond serving up the sort of gibberish that could just as easily have been scrawled on the walls of a pub toilet?

It’s truly baffling. But then, so is the idea that Greg Taylor would ever take such a ridiculous step down in his career. And so is the idea that this is the kind of move that would change the balance of power in Scottish football.

But that’s Scottish football discourse for you.

A place where the lines between parody and reality are forever blurred, and where the Village Idiot continues to get paid to talk nonsense while everyone else shakes their heads in disbelief.

Kris Boyd and Barry Ferguson try to make a cup of tea and end up in hospital.

More truth in that than the shite they usually come out with.

Meant to say, if anyone sees Cerny on the street or in a cafe etc., give him a skoosh for me.

    The Cerny SKOOSH challenge.

After all it’s only a bit of fun and ok by the police.

Haven’t had time to dip into Wallow Wallow yet where they generally love him…

But unless he admits it was an April Fools Gimmick then I think even they will turn on him regarding this one…

At which point he’ll run to mammy and say that it was an April Fool Day bit of Hun fun !

Taylor joining them was debated on a hundred forum before Boyd had his revelation and the majority felt they should sign him because he’s better than what they’ve got. Which is true but no one mentioned Taylor might not want to. I always knew he was a rangers fan when he was young but that won’t swing it, I think he already knows where he’s going and maybe has done for a while.
