So, my fellow Celtic fans, the 2024/2025 season is over and the new one is about to begin. Oh, wait a minute—about to begin? Well, before it kicks off there’s a summer transfer window looming on the horizon, and the big question is whether our gaffer Brendan Rodgers will be able to improve the squad a bit—and whether the Celtic board will cooperate with him on that front.
If you cast your mind back to the last winter transfer window, you’ll remember that the Celtic management managed to sell one of our best strikers, Kyogo.
And we can see now that it wasn’t a particularly smart move. Now there are rumours that they are talking about selling Maeda—our best player? I mean, what? Are they crazy? I sincerely hope this is just speculation and not reality.
As I’ve mentioned in previous articles, this board is ‘simply depressed’—focused on selling the club’s best players while millions sit in the bank waiting to be spent on some proper fresh blood.
Why do they treat our beloved club like that, showing no real intent to strengthen the team? Well, the next few months will show us whether the squad will be improved and whether we’ll see any meaningful new arrivals.
Every transfer window is a bit of a minefield for Celtic, and I think the core issue is still the lack of proper cooperation between Brendan Rodgers and the board. He seems to constantly be in a fight with them to get what he needs.
Still, there are a lot of names being thrown around just the same. There are loads of rumours out there, and as always, some are just wild speculation and others may carry a bit of truth. Let’s have a look at some of the latest talk.
First off, there’s Mathias Kvistgaarden, who we’ve been hearing about since the winter window. Is he really going to join The Hoops?
Big question. Personally, I think it’s all just noise from the media. Sure, Brendan Rodgers might rate him—he does seem to suit Rodgers’ style and tactical approach—but there’s no real sign that Kvistgaarden is on his way to Parkhead any time soon. The transfer fee seems high, and this pursuit seems to have lasted years … in fact, this will be the fifth transfer window in which he’s been linked to us.
Then there’s been chatter for months about David Strelec and Lennon Miller. Again, truth or fiction?
Let’s break them down.
David Strelec is a Slovakian striker known for his goal-scoring prowess. He’s got Champions League experience and, if reports are accurate, is on Celtic’s radar. He currently plays for Slovan Bratislava and has 25 goals to his name. His estimated value sits somewhere between £7–9 million. But will he be in the green and white next season? Still a big question mark.
But that’s around 4-5 million less than his Danish counterpart would cost, and that might be what tips the balance one way or another.
Next up is Lennon Miller. We’ve all heard the speculation that he’s bound for Celtic this summer. But come on—will he really be pulling on the Hoops any time soon? I’m not 100% convinced, but I’ll say this: he’d be a terrific signing.
Miller is a central midfielder, known for his physicality, technical skill and strong awareness, which helps him operate in tight spaces and move the ball well. I think he’d fit Rodgers’ system nicely. But whether he actually comes? We’ll see. I don’t like the chatter from his camp about him preferring a move to the continent; I also don’t like the way the media is trying to steer him to anyone but Celtic.
Another name that keeps popping up is Michel-Ange Balikwisha, the Belgian winger currently playing for Royal Antwerp.
We all know the club’s keen to add more attacking depth, and Balikwisha could definitely be the answer. He’s said he might be leaving his current club and would consider Celtic… but whether we’ll actually see him at Paradise is still up in the air. He does tick the right boxes and that makes this an interesting prospect.
Now, here’s one of our two done deals.
According to The Press and Journal, Celtic have agreed a pre-contract with Aberdeen goalkeeper Ross Doohan, making his return to the club likely. I’ve got no complaints there. Based on what I’ve seen, he’s a brilliant keeper. It makes perfect sense why Celtic—the biggest and most successful club in Scotland—would want him back, especially with Kasper Schmeichel on his way out after this season. The question as to why we let him go in the first place is one to revisit on another day.
Next on the radar is Youssef El Kachati, a striker known for his prolific scoring, especially during his time at Telstar. He would be a Bosman; as James has said, this is a market we’ve overlooked for too long. That we’re already lined up Doohan and Tierney on Bosman’s is a sign that we’ve made a shift in this area.
El Kachati was top scorer in the Tweede Divisie during the first half of 2022–23, and played a key role in their promotion to the Eredivisie in 2024–25. With Kyogo gone, Celtic clearly need a new striker, and El Kachati seems like a strong candidate. He’s great at finishing chances and has excellent positional sense; exactly what Rodgers needs. Whether he ends up in the Hoops is, once again, anyone’s guess.
Today there are rumours that he has agreed a move to another Dutch side; at the time of writing it’s not clear if this is speculation or fact.
The latest name being floated is Harley Mills, a full-back who can also operate in midfield. Rodgers is reportedly eyeing him to build depth on the left side ahead of a long, demanding season.
Mills is being described as “extremely energetic and competitive,” and Rodgers apparently sees him as a long-term project, a potential rising star for the club. It would be a clever move, especially with Tierney coming in during the summer. So, will Mills be wearing the green and white next season? Still another question mark.
So, we’ve got a lot of potential ‘high’ targets—along with a lot of unanswered questions. But I’m hopeful the outcome will be positive. I’ll be monitoring the situation closely and will keep fellow Celtic fans up to date with more articles as things develop.
We all know Celtic need reinforcements across the pitch: striker, defence, midfield. It’s going to take hard graft over the summer, and most importantly, proper collaboration between Brendan Rodgers and the board.
Ready, steady, go Celtic! Work hard this summer transfer window and the Treble could be ours next season!
Summer transfer window looming on the horizon? I might be wrong but I thought it started 6 days ago on the 1st. June.
You’re wrong. It opens on the 16th of June. There is a ‘mini-window’ open between the 1st and 10th to allow teams competing in the Club World Cup to register players.
Thanks Jae, I’m glad to hear that as I thought we had already missed the boat with potential early signings……I wish.
And of course Scott Bain signed for Falkirk, freebie or not, he still had to negotiate a deal and sign a contract?
I’m always – What will be will be regarding new players as I cannot effect it anyway and just wait to see what happens from the reports on here…
They gave him (Brendan);quite a bit last year but took more than that in…
And £10.999 million went from Celtic to that slut reeves as well which wasn’t good for a Butchers Apron Hater like me for me… Plenty cash to fund the latest Butchers Apron Bastard that got voted in Hamilton, Stonehouse and Larkhall last night…
Another sad and tragic day for Scotland !
