For the second time in a week the Celtic board has been able to lean on Charlie Mulgrew to make an argument on their behalf.
And it’s crystal clear that he’s doing exactly that.
Mulgrew tells us that we’ve done our moaning and it’s time to move on. He’d love it if that actually happened. It would safeguard his place in the hierarchy. It would keep the board sweet. And it might even put him in line for a job at Celtic Park one day.
But none of that is going to happen.
Mulgrew is typical of the ignorance that exists in so many corners of the media and in the little bubble the Celtic board inhabits.
Nobody is “moving on” from this.
The board has lost its mandate and, with it, its legitimacy.
Those things officially evaporated when the no confidence motions came pouring in. But truthfully, the board shot both to pieces over the course of the summer — with their constant undermining of the manager and the deliberate weakening of his team. The last shred of credibility they had was obliterated with their insane decision to attack the manager through a tabloid newspaper.
This crisis isn’t about one Champions League knockout or a single bad summer window. The grievances go deeper. They are wider than that. They touch on the whole structure of the club and the culture in which it is run.
That’s why any “resolution” which leaves these people in office is unthinkable. A vote of no confidence is exactly what it says it is: not an invitation to try harder, but a demand to pack your bags. It really is that simple.
The board’s defenders point to the historical record as if it’s a shield. In fact, it’s the most damning thing of all.
This isn’t just a bad moment. It’s a pattern. It’s year after year of drift, failure and complacency. The fact they think the record defends them tells you everything about their lack of regard for fan opinion. They don’t even understand where we’re coming from. We aren’t poles apart — we’re speaking different languages.
The numbers are brutal.
Five Champions League qualification failures in a row whenever we’ve had to go through the rounds. Seven failures in the last eleven years. Transfer windows that weaken the squad rather than strengthen it. A strategy that no one can explain, because there isn’t one. And the same faces presiding over it all.
This isn’t about bad luck or circumstance.
It’s about systemic governance failure. It’s about people in power who are incapable of change, incapable of seeing beyond their own narrow interests, and utterly divorced from the supporters who actually fund and sustain this club.
That’s why appeals like Mulgrew’s are so pathetic.
They show the same lack of understanding as the people in the boardroom. “We’ve done our moaning, it’s time to move on” is exactly what Lawwell and Nicholson would like to hear. It’s exactly what they’d say themselves if they thought they could get away with it. And it betrays the same inability to wrap their heads around what is actually going on.
We are not dealing with a storm in a teacup.
We are dealing with a collapse of legitimacy.
When you gaslight the supporters with a sham statement, when you undermine the manager in public and in private, when you strip his squad of quality and then brief the media against him, you don’t get to tell people “move on.” You don’t get to pretend it was just a wobble. You don’t get to reclaim the mandate.
It doesn’t even matter if the board somehow co-opts Rodgers into calling for unity. The only way this club renews and reforms is when the people currently running it are gone.
This is about governance at the very top. It’s about ripping out the rot, gutting the executive tier, and bringing in new blood, new ideas, and a coherent strategic plan. None of that is possible while the current leadership sits in those chairs.
The fans have spoken, and they’ve spoken in one voice.
That voice is clear.
We have no confidence in the current executive leadership. And that verdict has very little to do with one bad summer or one European failure. It’s about successive failed windows. It’s about years without a coherent plan. It’s about systemic drift overseen by the same small group of men who think the club belongs to them.
This is not the first summer Celtic fans have been let down. It’s not the first time we’ve called for fresh thinking at the executive level. Some of us have been demanding it for years. But the difference now is that those calls have gone mainstream.
They have become the voice of the majority. The reform agenda is not a fringe project anymore. It is the central question of Celtic’s future.
And through all of it, fans will continue to do what they always do: support the team, back the manager, stand behind the players.
Love for Celtic doesn’t vanish because we despise those who run it badly. That’s the line of unity which Mulgrew and the board don’t understand. The people who played no part in creating this disaster will bear no share of the blame.
Let me repeat it: these people have no mandate. And when the mandate goes, legitimacy goes with it. This will not be resolved by better results on the pitch. It will not be resolved by staying a step ahead of the shambles across the city. It will not be resolved by sneaking a couple of Europa League wins. This is about fundamentals. About system collapse. About governance failure on a grand scale.
And because of where we are now, everyone connected to Celtic is going to have to choose. Every fan, every pundit, every ex-player. Mulgrew has already chosen his side. The fans have chosen theirs. And the board’s time is up.
This isn’t moaning. It isn’t a tantrum. It’s not a momentary burst of anger that will fade with the next victory. This is a movement. It’s unity forged out of contempt for those who treat us with the same, who think they can scare us with liquidation bogeymen, who think they can gaslight us with clichés about “lessons being learned.”
We see through it. We are done with it.
And we will not move on until they do.

We shall not be moved. The clarion call of the Stein era.
Add Charlie to the GTF chant.
Boycot everything Charlie is involved in.
Never invite him to anything.
Time he learned not to mess with the Celtic support.
He has ruined any goodwill he has had with us.
Bye bye Charlie.
I’d love to think there would be change at boardroom but not sure how that is going to happen. Lawell and Nicholson are on fantastic packages no doubt for not doing too much at all. They aren’t going to leave that behind and move out. Can/would Desmond force the issue, I doubt that too. Thick as thieves.
The only real change would be someone taking over Desmond’s shares. I am not really sure where that would lead. If it were a group with a big Celtic interest that might be the best option. Is there such a thing with many tens on millions to spend?
Mulgrew as part of the CL Qualification failure vibe — Pretty good match up.
Mulgrew as part of the Gang of 3 who caused Deila a lot of grief.
Mulgrew as the corner boy that WGS didn’t like?
Mulgrew as badger’s erse rough from Kirkie.
Mulgrew as board mouthpiece.
Strange career path.
Outstanding reply to the statement by Paul on Celtic fans tv podcast. Superb, well worth a watch
Mulgrew wasn’t anything startling as a player…
And he’s utterly useless as a pundit, stammering and stalling the odd time he’s on Sportscene…
McCann is a million times more astute for sure…
That tells me all that I need to fuckin know !
Charlie Mulgrew is a daft boy completely out of his depth and possibly being manipulated .There is a tsunami coming and he best get out of its path .
Is Mr Mulgrew a mouthpiece for the Celtic board because of a sense of loyalty due to the fact of his families involvement at present within Parkhead – His son and cousin both play for Celtic teams. Is this pay back time? Is he wanting a job as well?
Jobs for the Bhoys/Ghirls Charlie?
P.S. – The Celtic support will be triumphant!
Please keep emphasising how much lawell has taken Out of The club About 35 million at the latest count. Not to mention the rest of them people don’t believe me when i tell them
Disappointed in him. Loved it when he told that reporter “You just made that up”.
Mulgrew is a fool, just like Peter Grant. The things that come out of their mouths astound me. What nonsense. All of them, Peter Liar especially, need to leave immediately. James said it perfectly: Treason.
