  1. What you’re suggesting James is that Celtic need a machwinner, a game changer. I’m not sure Bernardo has shown that in the chances he’s been given. I’m also not sure Engels can be the difference maker that MON has suggested, though he’ll definitely add some steel to the midfield.

  2. Yep James you describe the player we all hoped that Bernardo would become, but in his fleeting appearances this season he hasn’t shown any of that. That goes for many players in this shambles of a season. I honestly can’t name any player who has improved, but I could name several who’s form has dipped alarmingly. At the start of the season the M/F was the one area we thought we had covered, We were wrong, that has misfired along with the rest of the team.
It’s so obvious that the complete off field mess has effected the players, but the balance of the team has been wrong for well over a year , and it’s no surprise that any half decent result has come with a good backs to the wall performance by our defence, and they have been few and far between.
Bernardo is probably due a turn, but I honestly think this season is over. Will be delighted if I’m proved wrong.

  3. Bernardo has had plenty of opportunities to assert himself and cement his place in the side, but he has been lethargic and lacklustre and seemingly happy to cement his place on the bench instead. I no longer see a future for him at Celtic Park, for no one misses him when he’s not there and no one appreciates his efforts when he is. He is not alone.

    1. Have to agree with you. I know he hasn’t had much of a chance but any time he does come on i don’t even know he is on the park
He is apparently amazing for Portugal U21 but has never shown that for us. I was surprised when we signed him permanently tbh. Like the rest of them we need much much more from him for the remainder of the season

  4. Late in the game, I remember Bernardo coming on and getting the ball in the middle of the park, riding a brutal challenge and running towards the goal where he shot and on the rebound I think Idah scored. I thought at last we have a real midfielder but a couple of sessions with CMG and the coaches and he has been neutered.

    1. Scottish Cup final, last minute winner Cgreen. McGregor has been a great servant for us but over the past two seasons he has been trading off his past performances rather than current form. I may be wrong but I don’t think he has been dropped over that period (I don’t count getting rested in early Cup ties). Bernardo has been a victim of an unwillingness of our managers and coaches to change our playing style.
Also a victim of our unwillingness to rotate players such that when forced to change due to injuries/suspensions, we bring in ring rusty players and then are surprised when they struggle in the game! Both Ange and Rodgers were guilty of underutilising the full squad in my view.

  5. If i was MON, I from now on in until the end of the season would play 3-5-2.

Sinisalo in nets. A back three of Arthur Trusty and Tierney
Arujo Engels (holding midfield) bernardo and McGregor Maeda and Ihenacho and Nygren up front.
