  1. Exzclty what I thought when I saw what went on in France..our celebrations were a storm in a tea cup compared to that. And if it had been mamaged properly there would have been no issues.
Set up a party zone on Glasgow green with sensible policing (not clad in riot gear) and let the fans have a party.
    No -residents pissed off
As you say the council wants all the benefits with none of the work

  2. Great article James. Just one ‘little’ thing. To me, even Paris was a storm in a teacup. I remember the Paris riots of mid sixties and of course the sacking of ?Rome? aka Bombay street and the carnage that was the north of Ireland. I know from personal experience what a real riot is and Paris and Trongate were mild compared to what I lived through. Coming out of Windsor Park and being attacked by mini huns and british soldiers herding us towards them at the point of their rifles. But still, a great article. BTW, I have read reports of provocation by Police Scotland so maybe there was some pre planning

  3. Just imagine if the Celtic Fan Collective were to have elected representatives on Glasgow council after next Mays council elections, the difference that would make.At present no one will defend Celtic fans not even the club. There has been countless incidents over the last couple of months where the Celtc supporters could have done with a public voice but no one would step forward so its about time we had our own. Our own voice on the council could be the difference in providing a safe space for fans to celebrate, one the Celtic board wouldn’t be able to bury their heads in the sand and pretend doesn’t exist

    1. Thats a great idea regarding somebody standing for the council. Do you think they would get elected. Do enough people care?

      Worth a try though.

  4. This is the only Celtic site I bother with because the content is first class. I have been coming here every other day for years. All those ads and scripts are a joke and you should get rid. It is supposed to be a serious place to discuss our club. It is not 1999 and people don’t have cute .gifs and car sales. If your gonny do it then do it with restraint. When I get time I am going to run a few tests and show you how much your code sucks. In the meantime keep telling us whats happening re the club. Regards.

  5. Whether we like it or not, there are two teams in Glasgow who could potentially be League Champions, so it is only sensible to provide celebration areas for those teams. I would suggest Glasgow Green for Celtic and Bellahouston Park for the Ibrox team, thus ensuring that all fans can congregate and celebrate, with the minimum of disruption to the city. Or is this solution too easy and sensible?

  6. Pdivers @ 1.28pm…

Switch off JavaScript (on an iPad anyway) and you’ll scroll through everything on The Celtic Blog quicker than Daizen runs…

    Hope this helps buddy.

    Cheers fae Clachy !

  7. Good article James, far too sensible for the City Council, Police Scotland and Celtic to organise. You sometimes wonder if there is any Leadership amongst these three organisations.
Yep Broony, Glasgow Green and Bellahouston Park are the obvious places, beer tents, ice cream vans and a few bands thrown in. a real party atmosphere or would that be too much for the austere men and women who run our City and Police Scotland.
Maybe 14 League Title wins in 15 years isn’t looked upon as something to celebrate by the people in charge of both organisations.

  8. I was at The 2026 Trongate celebrations James…

    And 2023 and 2024 as well…

It was policed very differently this year for sure…

In previous years Celtic had already won the league so this year perhaps police took a different approach given the emotion involved – In fact they actually did !

So I arrived after dumping the motor in Clydebank for free parking, switched on the mobi and good the good news texts, had an empty diet irn bottle ready, got a bottle of whisky and filled three quarters of it into the wee bottle of diet brewery and started drinking it on the bus to start ma celebrations…

Trongate was busy with very well behaved Celtic supporters, mostly younger than me in ma mid fifties for sure, just mixing, chatting, singing, hugging, some even snogging it was all BEAUTIFULLY natured !

Now in the previous years I took it all in via pubs in The Calton as I was overnight in Glasgow and there wasn’t much police around until they decided to clear the party around 7.30pm but they seemed to do it in a more sensible manner than this year…

Firstly going into Party Trongate at 3.30pm there was a line of cops across Trongate around King Street, people were moving freely but the cops were only two feet apart three at the most, I didn’t have Celtic colours on but at that stage fans could and were coming freely East and West…

I had to head back up the road to look after someone and ma last bus was 7.30pm so I set off to walk to the bus station at 6.30pm (I’m fat and breathless hence ‘early’ departure) at this point these cops across Trongate suddenly dispersed to ten riot vans in King Street and started changing into boiler suits, testing out hard motorcycle type helmets, batons and jumped into their vans and turned into Trongate in an easterly direction…

THEY MEANT FUCKIN BUSINESS FOR SURE…

Again at that stage everything was peaceful at Trongate…

Now anything may or may not have kicked elsewhere in the area, but that was my experience of Trongate that day anyway…

I guess if you’re gonna face folks who have been emotionally drained in that manner you will always have one or two that ‘resist’ and that’s all it takes for The Scummy’s to print their evil narrative and the same for broadcast outlets also…

But all Celtic supporters that I seen on Trongate between 3.30pm and 6.30pm were fuckin well IMPECCABLY BEHAVED !
