  1. There’s only one Muller who’s worth talking about as a striker and that is the incomparable Gerd.

    Der Bomber!

  2. Didn’t our own Billy McNeill not fuck up like that by comparing one of our young pups to Roberto Baggio…

I think it was Stevie Fulton…

That blarney does the player no favours whatsoever !

  3. Well remembered Clach. Stevie had shown a lot more potential than Naderi has, but still his promising career went downhill from there and he ended up at Hearts. I’m sure I read that Caesar regretted making that comparison. Rohl may also realise it was his inexperience that caused him to overstretch his public appraisal of a player’s potential.

  4. Being of a certain vintage the headline conjured images for me of Gerd Muller AKA Der Bomber, now there was a striker for the ages.
Saw him only once in the flesh, as Hampden hosted the European Cup Final with Bayern holding off a plucky St. Etienne on the night.
The spine of that side was Sepp Maier, Franz Beckenbauer and Gerd Muller.
Recall the Rolling Stones were at the Apollo same night and Glasgow was absolutely jumping with 3am licenses. Saw Keith Richards and keyboard wizard Billy Preston outside Central Station taking in the vibes from a kerbside Bentley. Now as then, references to our cross city rivals seem to have fallen off the page.

  5. I also saw the great Gerd Muller in the flesh. I went to Ibrox for the inter cities fairs cup match in 1970. Im delighted to say I witnessed the rare sight of Muller scoring from outside the box to knock rangers, as they were then known, out of Europe!
