“Alienate – To make (someone) feel isolated or estranged: an urban environment which would alienate its inhabitants”

Types of racism, alienation goes on too often in the world around us, but when it is highlighted by journalists, especially mentioned in the same breathe as sectarianism – chanting – singing and comments isn’t it about time the SFA got some balls and challenged these fans or persons to the maximum so it is discontinued and forcefully removed from the match environment in the stands.

Recently I challenged an image referring to chanting of a monkey nature or an action that took place allegedly at an old firm game but the image was deemed inconclusive as it was several images joined together.

….. but all in all some images speak louder than words: –

The roots of it run deep - Will it be challenged?

Need I say more!!

They alienate us with vicious chants and single out and attack their own foreign players in the wake of defeat.

Will it be tackled by the powers that be??

I must admit that when I scoured Newsnow on Sunday and saw a few sites leading with this story, I did feel that it smacked off let’s not admit we got beat and highlight them.

The following political buffonary shows that summit was run by those who haven’t got a clue and wanted to be seen doing something about nothing when not doing something about something.

    Everybody involved are cunts.

“paddy mccourts fenian army” , you cant have it both ways

“and soon there will be no protestants at all” , sectarian…yes

    laughable , laughable , laughable

have celtic been beat or something???

    • lordofthewing says:

Must admit to not finding Fenian offensive but can see how a song about killing them can be. Plus, I agree about the bastardised line of the song quoted. The right version is sung with great gusto on occasions.

At least you understand what sectarian is. Now, study your own songbook. Have rangers been ignoring this or something?

    • Pujol says:

      Robert, yer a fanny.

Can’t have it both ways? Replace the word “Fenian” with “black” or “Jewish” in the song you mention, and then in “Billy Boys” or “We are Rangers”. Sing them to yourself.

Paddy McCourt song – still not offensive.

      Your songs?

      Still not get it?

I’d also be grateful if you could name me one instance in the last 15 years when that anti-protestant line was sung by Celtic supporters. Go on, just give me one example.

There`s the challenge. Let`s kick sectarianism out of Celtic!
I walked with a disappointed support down Aitkenhead Road after the game. No nastiness, no foul mouth bigots but decent people who have mainly moved on from the old nonsense.
Our support are holders of the new wisdom.

    in scotland 2011
if everone went to the same school digotry would die,it would take a couple of years.

    • lordofthewing says:

i went to a non denominational school. still got the bruises and mental scarring from not being one of the people.

away with your educational apartheid shit, complete bollocks. what about bringing up yer weans to be tolerate of others beliefs? might be a bit too much hard work that for some.

    • Pujol says:

There were no separate schools in Bosnia or Rwanda, but plenty of digotry.

Sectarianism isn’t a problem in England. There are 415 Catholic schools in Scotland. There are 2,430 Catholic schools in England. Schools aren’t to blame.

However, there are over 300 orange lodges in Scotland, about 20 in England.

      Hmmm…

I propose, that you, sir, are the digot!

  • Puzzled? says:

    Don –

What has that got to do with anything?
This is the only country in the world education in a catholic school seems to be an issue.
Religion should NOT be an issue with anyone, but maybe it is part of the Scottish way!
Ashamed sometimes of the “Best Wee Country in the World”

  • Ciaran says:

Let them sing. Let them sing whatever they want. I, for one, would not change the bastards one little bit. They are vile, offensive and mostly uneducated. I wouldn’t like for them to become normal. I don’t like them just the way they are.

  • chaz says:

thats there new one now catholic schools it was the police dodgey turnstyle chelsea fans the problem is yur fekin orange walks the sooner the goverment bans them use might move on

  • bobocop says:

The issue of segregated schools cannot be ignored.
I remember as a 10 year old singing the sash outside my close. My dad blootered me for it and when I think back I don’t ever recall hearing anything like it in my home. I doo recall however the cops being called to a football match between us and our big rivals, St Ninians. We went at each other hammer and tongs purely because of the segregation. These guys were our best mates out of school and we played endless hours of football in mixed sides after school with never a malicious word or act perpetrated.
These innocent bigotries if you like, can be shaken off as people get older but if you also grow up in a home where it’s either “Orange” or “Papish” bastards you hear then you’re left with what we have today.
The English schools example does not, I feel, apply. The Church of England is really only Catholicism with divorce. Tony Blair no less was able to convert to Catholicism without an eyebrow being raised down south. Up hear Mo Johnston signs for Rangers and he’s villified by some to this day and the Bigotted section of the Rangers support still look on it as a day of shame. They seem to forget that The Hammer, Amo, Gattuso and countless others were all good Catholic boys.
Ciaran, I think your post says more about you than you either want or realise, or did I miss the point.
Chaz, by all means ban the orange walk, it’s long redundant and nothing more now than a celebration of ignorance. The same types of people are to be found at Hibs walks and WOSBA marches. Would you ban them too?

    • lordofthewing says:

It could be ignored if we werent the most backward country in the world.

    • Pujol says:

“These guys were our best mates out of school and we played endless hours of football in mixed sides after school with never a malicious word or act perpetrated.”

Kind of blows away your argument about Catholic
schools being the cause of the problem.

As for your comments about Catholic/Protestant relations in England, I think you should read a bit of history from the post-reformation era(and try the “Gordon Riots” for a more recent incident).

I concede that England is not a direct comparison, as the small-minded and elitist Calvinism that still casts a shadow over Scotland (WATP, “Wha’s like us” etc etc)never really caught on there. This has let them move into the 21st Century, where going to a faith school doesn’t make one the object of hate.

      • lordofthewing says:

Saying that ALL of England has moved to into the 21st century is pushing it. They just have a different form of racism.

        • Pujol says:

True, there’s racism in England, but guess in which part of the UK you’re statistically most likely to be racially attacked if you’re not white…

Aye, but we’re all jock tamson’s bairns, best wee country in the world, etc etc…

By the way, I’m not anti-Scottish (it’s far from the worst place in the world to live), but our capacity for delusion, unjustified self-praise and whataboutery is staggering.

    • Ciaran says:

Bobocop, my post has more to do with my apathy. As an Irish, Catholic Celtic supporting taxpayer. I am utterly dismayed by the whole debate. Just today I heard a rangers supporter telling an apprentice (who was singing, Just can’t get…) to stop singing that feni#n sh_te.
They will continue to sing their horrid bile. We will never be separated from them until we are gone. It’s what they and the media want.
We should sing hymns, but maybe that would offend the Christian anti-Celtic anti-Catholic establishment.
I would be in favour of Celtic playing in a league away from the Scottish league.I think our colour, imagination and passion would be welcomed. Also, in time, the rivallry with rfc would slowly slip away.

  • bobocop says:

Pujol, I would never blame Catholic schools for the sectarianism we have today but you will never see real integration until you remove those things that keep us apart. I have no antipathy to any religion but feel that education should be secular with religion being kept in the home. The example I gave was to illustrate what can happen when you set people apart, whether it’s on the basis of religion, race, colour or anything else. I agree with you that historically there is overwhelming evidence to show anti-Catholicism by the British establishment. This sentiment was not brought about by deep theological differences but by one mans obsession with finding a male heir and anothers determination to maintain his political stranglehold on Europe. Scotland would be a different place today if the Pope had okayed Henrys’ divorce or Henry had settled for a daughter.
Ciaran, apologies, I did miss your point.
