The Good, The Bad And The Ugly Of Playing Sammy Against St Johnstone At Home

The Good

St Johnstone seem pretty pants don’t they? Struggling to score goals, tonkings of Them and relegation fodder that was supposedly Dunfermline means that them, Hibs and Inversenkie are everyone’s favourites to do battle for a place in the glamorous first division and the meagre riches it bestows.

I’m thinking that this could be a great day for Samaras to add to his 5 goals in 53 games. A confidence boost in game that we should win and the pressure should be off. Shaun Maloney could also get game and maybe goal time. Then again that is green sky thinking in a perfect world.

The Bad.

Self compliancy and big headiness means that we may struggle and this could  be abore fest that will be forgettable in the grand scheme of things. Another game that if Sammy doesn’t do anything it will be remembered for that and that only.

Another problem is that St Johnstone are sure to sit deep and stop space in behind. Hardly a Samaras a game.  3 managers have tried and failed to make him impress against deep sitting goons. Will Lennon be able to do anything different or is ir up to the player himself?

The Ugly

It’s hard to imagine that the support could get any uglier this week but while I fully expect a positive reaction if Samaras plays I would fully expect that good will to run short before the whistle goes for half time if all is not well.

Lennon’s defence of Samaras is almost Strachanesq. For the first time in his reign he is in direct conflict with some supporters and the the louder they shout the more stubborn he will become.

It could become an ugly stand off, which is something we don’t want. While I don’t advocate blind loyalty I am I big believer of if they play I support them and cast dispersions at a later date or in pixels.

My blind loyality I suppose is my belief that all things reach a natural conclusion and the problem of Samaras will reach that sooner rather than later.

I feel we must give Sammy a rest today after thursday nights Booing. Stokes and Maloney to start but please plat stokes through the middle and not out wide.

Sorry i forgot the spell check play stokes through the middle not out wide. Hopefully we will be able to score as this is the SPL not Europe.

I was watching some Shaun Maloney related stuff on The Celtic Viewer this morning. It makes his fall from grace to ridicule all the more heartbreaking.

A wise man once gave us the old statistic and lies thing but the fact remains. 5 goals in 53 games screams frustration. Please put the ‘Greek’ out of his misery.

Lets be positive and play Sammy.

First 5 minutes easy, Lassoed, and that would hopefully gives us 85 minutes to rectify what could be a dire situation.

Lets get serious here.. Sammy seems to be a nice big character but he ain’t no striker.

Joratim if he showed up with his boots hanging over the shoulder like in the old days past, should be given the wink.

    Seriously..

Does the Celtic management hope beyond hope that Sammy one day get 3 shots on goal (not necessary on target) and get a bid in of a fiver….

Look I have read a few topics over recent days from Celts who wear our badge well. Very well
I personally believed the time for excuses with certain players was long gone before this season began.

Whilst we debated whether we needed a goalkeeper, CH, or another striker time moved very quickly.

Each of above was legit as we scoured almost everywhere excluding Mars. Sadly nowadays there are not many who love our club as much as us, our support who would play for nothing.

Come to think of it Lawwell may now look at that as a good option… Practise run during our magnificent Charity game.

To misquote a famous (or infamous) quote “They’ll be dancing in the streets of St Johnston.”
Pure cant, I know, but I’m only human.

  • david says:

I don’t for 1 minute believe I was the only Celt who thought this.

Thank goodness the Eufa draw kept us apart from Spurs….. Sweat drip drip .

Yes bob we are only human and traumatised..

For what it’s worth I think Celtic would have offered a real challenge to Spurs. Like Rangers, Celtic and their playing and coaching staff don’t seem to take the so-called lesser opposition seriously. They get a good draw and seem to relax too much then the minnows play their hearts out effort wise, and produce the predictable result. Both clubs have been booted up the backside which should be enough to see them motivated.
Both sides of the Old Firm will go through, and remember, you read it here first.

      • lordofthewing says:

Celtic and R@ngers would have got their arses felt by Spurs and if we were in the EPL with our current squads we would slip out without touching the sides.

  • bobocop says:

I think you’re right in a league situation but whilst I’m not saying either side would beat spurs, I definitely think that in a cup match both sides would go in as underdogs, roll their sleeves up and have a go.
Bear in mind also the £40,000,000 or so annual bonus every premiership club gets just for being there and some of those sides are a bit iffy and regularly play cack.

    • lordofthewing says:

I’m really of the opinion now the cack would beat us easily. Swansea would win the SPL as would Notts Forest.
